I just don’t like those rims, and it needs more gears 🙂

And to be honest, it just doesn’t do anything for me. I would prefer a niner personally

don’t like the whole thing but definately beatiful elements, the pin stiping is class, the headtube is nice to see on a steel frame, the seat post head makes my eyes puke

Looks great until the last pic. Then the wheels make it look all weird and out of proportion.

deep rims suit bigger wheels better:

    Those dropouts are minging too.

Dunno what the fuss about IFs is, seems to be overpriced to get a “cool” label.

No, looks a bit weird to me – the combination of retro styling and carbon stuff just doesn’t work IMO.

And what’s the thinking behind the seat tube then? Are the other tubes ti or steel?

    What stem is that?

I have to say I like it, but the wheels to skew the proportions a bit.
Is the seat tube a 1 piece carbon jobbie to the seat clamp? Gonna limit any potential resale, or indeed any chance of dropping the post at all!
    And it needs gears.

Quite nice looking but a case of style over substance really. I’d never pay what they’re asking for it. YMMV

    Crank Bros stem btw ( 🙂 )

These are all elements I really like! But then, I do have strange tastes apparently!

Perhaps… Just goes to show that everyone likes different things eh? 😆

It’s a NAHBS show bike, so yes, very much style over substance… a lovely piece of bike art IMO 🙂

Ah yes, well that explains it 😉

Bikes as art? Well, fine if that’s your thing I guess…

too right! if we all like the same things, STW would be sooooo boring

I like it. I wonder if that seatpost is all one peice, extending down towards the b/b. Wonder how it affects the ride ?

No, it’s adjustable by a couple of inches or so – same as the current model carbon Treks with built in seat mast. The clamp is the black bit with the IF crown logo cut out of it that joins the carbon/orange bits of the seat tube

As others have said, elements I like and others I don’t. The paint is amazing as are all IF’s. The front triangle and headtube looks very solid, though I’m not sure that fork works with the 44mm ID headtube. The integrated carbon seat mast is nice, but the execution of the head clamp not so.

deep rims suit bigger wheels better

Agreed. But then I’ve already shown that predilection. Even if you don’t like the looks, you only have to ride them to be won over.

    Cane Creek stem btw

Pretty sure it’s a Crank Brothers

Not that it is even remotely like anything I would ever own, but, glorybe yes, that is lovely Psychle.

Dunno what the fuss about IFs is, seems to be overpriced to get a “cool” label.

It might well be a generational thing; IF were set up from the remenants of Fat City Cycles after they shut up shop and for riders of a certain generation, that’s more than enough cachet to make them cool even before you get close to their frames.

When they launched their first mountain bike, the Steel Deluxe, back in ohh, must have been 1996, MBI did a head to head review between that and a Yeti ARC.

The review raved about both bikes, but what it didn’t say is that the reviewer liked to IF so much, he actually bought it.

Yes, they are a ‘cool’ brand, but their heritage and the folklore that surrounds them is kind of deserved.

I don’t think it is a Crank Bros stem… at least not one of the current ones. The Cobalt stems don’t have the bolts at the front, they hold the bar by a wedge that presses in from behind, and the Iodine stems have a face plate.

    As for the bike… it’s f’in gorgeous…

Could be right. I was basing it on the silver cutout at the steerer tube end but maybe not:

Actually, looking at the pic full size ( here ), it’s got a crank bros logo on it…

    funkynick

    This is the Cobalt stem…

Which has a continuous band at the front, and doesn’t have the bolts.

    funkynick

Yeah, it does have a Crank Bros logo in the picture doesn’t it…

No idea which stem it is then… maybe a special?

Unless they’ve improved it by making it simpler and probably lighter…

What about the tyre logo and rim alignment (or lack off), hmm hmm no bodys mentioned that yet either!!

I quite like it in a showing off way, wouldn’t want to own or ride it.

29ers should have zero rise bars and negative rise stems. Fact.
