Knocked those Socialist Worker banners up pretty quickly.

I’m not sure how blood on your hands, and ‘may must go’ can be described as ‘socialist worker’ banners given the situation, I think it’s more local people demanding action.

People seem pretty rioty at the moment, Kensington and Chelsea Council offices stormed by protests and now they are at at downing Street..

I wasn’t being entirely serious when I wrote the bit about the British being too apathetic.

I think you might have got in before my edit to be fair. I personally think the rioting around a tragic event like that is a bit different to a general culture of civil disobedience without a specific trigger.

I’m no expert in population behaviours though and I live in a relatively affluent bit of the country (not London) which may skew my view.

I don’t think it’s general civil disobedience either, these are not art students having a rant.

    Confirmation bias OP?

If you look for bad news you’ll find it….easily…

Try looking for the good instead.

Don’t think (unfortunately) there will be enough consecutive days of good weather for anything to reach boiling point. No one wants to riot in the rain.
Which means it will be the usual wash out of a British summer.

“The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.”

@oldracer, have you tried putting sky news on in the last 3 days?
There is aparantly only one bit of news in the whole world.

People are angry, they seek something, someone, anyone to blame, they lash out. It’s entirely to be expected – it’s part of the grief cycle.

I’m not entirely sure how looting yourself a new telly and a pair of trainers helps overcome that grief or overturn the system though.

Oh dear, I don’t think anyone is looting, they are protesting about a government that has let them down. Over and over again.

If looting has been reported, please enlighten me. All I’ve seen from various sources is civil unrest directed against the government.

And i don’t blame them one bit.

    The night is young.

    directed against the government.

Imagine if there was some sort of system where people were asked if they would like to replace the current government with a different one?

Would that be a system where the current government are in cohorts with the mainstream media so those who are less inquisitive will vote according to what the media says?

It sounds like you’re advocating state controlled media, or media controled state, I’m not sure which.

Ah, riots. Tory governments know what to do about riots. Let it go on for a little bit and cause a load of property damage, then break some heads, throw a load of people in prison for as long as possible, and blame Wanton Criminality. Then tar any peaceful protest with the same brush (ideally provoke a bit more violence at them)

I really hope there are not riots, because here’s the thing with uncontrolled aggression – someone usually gets hurt, and usually it is someone who is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Presumably ninfers obvious arousal at the prospect of violence on the streets is driven by a desire to see the police ‘get stuck into’ a few ‘lefties’. Maybe it is part of a desire to see ‘society’ further disintegrate thus allowing extremist views to gain some traction. Silly.

Luckily I still have some faith in the British people. We have always derided extremists, laughed them off the park with their silly all or nothing childish crap and posturing. We will do so again. That’s the problem with being insular with other insular people – you can initiate a circle of escalating frothing until you believe you are really part of something. Step out into the big wide world and people point and laugh. Bless.

Cheap shots about looting televisions – really? And the crowd go ‘boooooooooo’? When does the panto horse do his bit – I like that?

Or maybe it’s just the prospect of uniforms that get some people so horny. The bad guys do have such style after all…..

I know, wouldn’t it be much better if we followed the example of other EU countries and nipped riots it in the bud by using Water cannon and CS gas?

Call me old-fashioned but I’d prefer it if we didn’t offer up the poor at the burning altar of wealth. You may find less civil unrest as a result.
