They’d best start building another bridge then….

I had recently wondered if when the new bridge is finished the existing one would be almost permanently closed for never ending refurbishment work…

Well, that changes my travel plans tomorrow.

Ah well. Not scrapping the toll might have helped towards upkeep.

My dads uncle refused to go over it. He had something to do with the cables and swore they were rubbish.

Just like the rest of the road network? Oh….

Have the remaining cables started to go then?

They stated “steel work” and “structural faults” earlier in the week.

If the cables are gubbed, their not ready to admit it.

The photos on the BBC site look like the people doing the inspecting are below road level, so doubt it is the cables. Last report I read on the cables said that the efforts to contain the decay were working.

Truly grim commuting for anyone going through that.

It’s not cables. They’ve found a problem in the steelwork in one location and are checking seven equivalent locations for further damage.

I actually wondered whether the Beeb photo was just from stock tbh

Traffic is being diverted along the road I use to get to work.
    Luckily I’m off today.
The traffic was backed up eleven miles 😯 , so basically my door to my works door 🙁 and just heard it took the bus four hours to get from Inverkeithing park and ride to Edinburgh.
I think I may have to pedal to work next week if the bridge is still closed.

Eight locations would be one at each side of the main supports so it may be exactly as the photo shows?

As i understand it its the connection points into the main towers that all evidence the same issues. Not sounding like a very fast fix, weeks rather than days. Sounds like a 3 week closure.

Looks like I’ll be cycling for the next three weeks.
On the bright side I’ll be fitter and lighter

    Shite,I hate going via Kincardine.
Looks like some advance train booking to be sorted out 🙁

Edit>>> Wonder if the foot path will stay open? <<< edit

No access at all to public, emergency services only.

That’s why they do bridge inspections, twitter alight with people wailing about how it’s someones fault.

Was it ISIS/ ISIL/ DAESH fault? Maybe the bombing campaign is justified!

Good case for working from home leading up to Crimbo

That’ll teach the tightfisted gits buying cheap houses in Fife & then infesting Edinburgh’s roads.

Wut? 50 year old overworked bridge develops fault, and you think it must be someone’s fault?

What’s hilarious is the same commentators who were calling the new Forth crossing a SNP vanity project are now moaning that it wasn’t built sooner 😀

It may depend on how access to the affected part is required – e.g. if they need to use the ped/cycle path to get to it.

I guess there’s the option of opening one of the main carriageways for bike access?

I reckon this is pretty low on their priority list at the moment

That’s going to really screw NHS Fife up. The majority of the folk who work at the Victoria Hospital are from this side of the water.

They need to get with the modern times and let Doctors and Nurses work form home 😉

They just need to do a job swap with all the Fifers working in Edinburgh.

They will probably put a ferry service on, hopefully giving priority to key professions such as NHS workers.
