Design even more in your face adverts or are we going to see CRC branded bikes?

I'd hope that someone like brant will be used for his bike designing skills rather than his big mouth but who knows...

I'd imagine there'll be a line of Brant designed and branded bikes that are good value, ride well, and have an overly complex 5 piece rear end...Oh, and are in stock more than occasionally

If I was in charge of CRC, that's what I'd be hoping for.

Surely you'd rather a 7 piece rear end?

5 piece seat stays he means, not rear triangle.

Perhaps the back up plan has already come into force? Not clear on the odd hat thing but I heard about some sort of odd sock exchange that seemed interesting.

On-One pricing plus the benefits of bulk purchasing could mean some very very very good value frames.

I imgine that the recent changes to the p-x/on-one 'corporate structure' were a precursor to this and it's been on the cards for a while.

Reckon its going to be tough for On-One particularily as they'll now be in competition with the new CRC brand thing.

One thing that did impress me with On-One was that it did keep evolving the brand from SS to 29ers to hardcore hardtails to ti hardcore hardtails. They might find a replacement frame designer but its going to take a lot to find someone who can keep that momentum going in keeping the brand current IMO and the On-One range could look tried quickly.

I may be a little naive but it does come as some surprise to me that Brant wasn't actually "Mr. On-One". As he was very much the mouthpiece of the company and provider of much of the energy it'll be interesting to see what happens going forward. Likewise it will be *very* interesting to see what happens with his collaboration with CRC. Maybe I'll hold off relacing that frame just yet...

There was a post on another thread asking if a rumour about Planet X being in trouble was correct. Brant categorically denied it. Hmmm?

From what i can see Brant is going it alone. Are we going to see Brant badged frames.

He will have the financial & distribution backing of CRC and also be able to supply the frames through the lbs network rather thn from his shed at present.

So Brant gets to control the design and manufacturing but gets to use the clout of CRC to bring down the costs and increase his supply chain. He will probably get more of the profits as well.

Sounds to me like Brant is lookig at the current market and thinking this is a more stable propersition than On-One. Cant blame him but it does make me think that On-One wont be able to compete, and i suspect Brant feels that otherwise he would have done a similar thing under the present On-One setup.

Make sense or a load of bollox?

So, if Brant has his 'own' brand, what's it going to be called?

Tempest Bikes/Cycles?

Could be worse.

But why is she not at school?

Probbly got the poor little mite working out in the shed.

That's why On-One's are so cheap; child labour.

Nope, looks like the Ti 456 is coming from Lynskey when the exchange rate improves.
Airbourne in China are going to produce the Ti 456 for On One to sell at £799!

The press release suggests the brand name for the bikes hasn't been announced yet. I think Bikeradar have jumped the gun a bit (again) announcing that the bike brand will carry the same name as Brant's company.

Oh, and I prefer biltong to jerky. Anyone know a good supplier of a nice game biltong? Preferably made from UK meat?

Interesting move, I guess after nine years in the job a man's allowed to move on. I bought my Inbred frame when On-One was selling to shops and personally I prefer to actually be able to ride a bike before I buy it.

I have a funny feeling that On-One may not have much life left in it now, especially if Brant does target the same market with his new brand. But Planet X will still be there, they have a healthy road and CX product range after all.

Best of luck Brant!

Must be missing something here, cos I don't quite 'get' all the excitement.

It's more interest than excitement (although I'd bet Brant is plenty excited about the future): I'd guess most people on here have either (a) owned an On One or Planet X bike (b) ridden one (c) know someone who has or (d) received a grumpy sounding email from Brant about stock levels and your order or (e) all of the above.

Most people that have ridden On Ones, especially Inbreds, have a fondness for them and found them excellent, British-designed for British-riding, bike frames and are curious what their designer, a regular poster here is going to do next.

Does that help you out at all?

I'm still confused. I don't think we are getting the full story, but I doubt that we ever will.

What is so different from the current setup?
If Brant isn't working for Chain Reaction, is he going freelance? I'm not sure I'd give up a regular pay cheque in this financial climate.

Is he going to have as much freedom with the CRC?
Probably not, but if he's not working for them are they going to fund his frame and component designs?

Knowing Brant's acerbic wit, I wonder how long it will be before he pisses off someone at CRC?

I'd also like to know why the job advert for Brant's replacement were so quickly taken down from the On One website?

So many un-answered questions.

Do I really care? Not really, but I hate being lied to and I hate hypocrites.

I DEMAND THE TRUTH!! I'M NOT A NUMBER I'M A FREE MAN!!!!!!!!

Ok so it was more of an announcement that Planet X were looking for a new designer rather than a specific job advert.

Brant - While you're following this thread, are the 29er Carbon Forks really not supplied with a 300mm steerer like the web site advertises?

Brant has already started on some of his new designs and is taking inspiration from the technology of WWI. We have managed to get hold of a spy shot of his new adjustable dropouts on what we believe will be called the 'Sommester'. This is a fixed gear bike with a revolutionary new 'tracked wheel' arrangement. Brant could not be reached to confirm or deny this new development as he is believed to be hiding in a trench somewhere North of Todmorden'
