having taken delivery of my new tricross on Friday to be used as a tourer, I duly did a mini tour on it this weekend.

Comes to today and my work is canceled. Being as i will still be getting paid for said work, i thought it would be rude not to get a cheeky ride in. But which bike to ride?

It turns out (and i always thought i’d be the last person say this) that cyclocross is GREAT FUN. I’ve never used so much of my 20 years of cycling experience in one ride. the semi slick commutery tyres supplied on the Tricross were surprisingly grippy but required a finesse of pedal power i’ve not used since i rode my Raleigh Lizard in the peaks 20 years ago.

19 miles on our usually horrific selection of local bridleways and snow covered roads was great fun. I just wish those pesky Romans hadn’t built their dead straight roads bang into the head wind!

    anyway, here’s some pics 🙂

How did the romans know 1600 years ago what direction the wind would be coming from today? I mean OK, clearly they did, but HOW?

and what did they ever do for us anyway?

unlike ‘cross bikes in the snow, which is probably one of the most fun things in riding. got highsided in a drift and over the bars on sled run this lunchtime, first time in a while that i’ve been laughing like a kid as i rode, top fun.

i rode UP the sled runs, much to the amusement of the local kids and their not unattractive mothers

mrmichaelwright any chance of you getting in touch with me via email (should be in my profile) about the South of France location.
    Cheers
