    Simple equation

    1. Like sick bikes = Get one

    2. Don’t like sick bikes = Don’t get one 😀

    3. Actually quite like Sick Bikes and some of their designs/ideas, but would never buy because owner comes across as a bit of an easily offended numpty.

*edit – and just having looked at the brazing in question, it is pretty badly done.
I’m not a professional frame builder, but if I was one I’d be a bit embarrassed by that. And yes I can do it better. If you need proof photos are available 😉

This thread shows STW at its absolute worse

    😆

Hardly. If you’d like to see the STW forum at its absolute worst, try a religion thread. 🙄

What I am a little disturbed about is the inability to take any kind of criticism, even from those that do know what they are on about and even when constructive – the company that posted on their picture causing them to panic and pull the image or Ben on here posting personal opinion from a qualified background.

This has now peaked with them proudly stating that they hunted through the web to find someone’s details who criticised them on Facebook and called them at home, asking their wife to pass the phone over so they could confront the person about it. This kind of attitude is a little worrying – is it an attempt to bully everyone into silence in fear of being called out online or otherwise, or just an inability for owners to let any criticism go ‘without a fight’ – the internets a big craphole full of opinion and trolls, sometimes you just have to leave it, grow a thicker skin.

That’s much better, a perfectly nicely done seat cluster. And as I said before, there’s a head tube on their Instagram which is also competently done.

Could you imagine if Orange bosses came on here ranting every time someone posted a picture of a filing cabinet.

This thread started as a genuine question about brazing until sick bikes fella turned and started ranting.

To be honest I don’t think I’d buy from anyone with that sort of attitude.

I’m sure Chipps will discuss that in his feature he is running with them in an upcoming issue. No doubt Sick Bikes contempt for the forum will also be discussed.

Disclaimer. I think that Ti gearbox bike looks epic.

Maybe some people don’t like the fact that they’re being successful

    How are you measuring success?

😀 awesome. Certainly a strange choice of marketing campaign. It’s quite endearing though, I’ll probably end up with one.

Is that the first flounce from a bike manufacturer?

As someone who owns a slack angled fillet brazed hardtail, I like what SB are doing, and most of those photos look fine to me, but yeah that top tube gusset / head tube area doesn’t look great. I totally get that it can get filed down but it’d take a lot to hide those gaps. Seeing that they are all about marketing, you’d think that they’d take feedback on their marketing. Oh well…

For goodness sake for a person you dislike you sure like looking at my stuff in detail!

I’m fairly new to the internet but that seems to summarise forums. Look for any flaw and argue the pants off it, especially if it doesn’t concern you. Sadly, those that know their stuff such as Ben, Mick etc get lost as another STW tit instead of respectful peers, unless you spend 10 hours a day on here and know that.

Like you say, sell stuff to people that want to buy your stuff, and deal with those with any that have issues you’ve sold to in the same manner as they deal with you. Nobody reasonable wants anything more.

Based on the info I can see/listen to, you’re a good egg and I wish you every luck.

Odd response from Jordan. They use the internet for aggressively marketing but it appears he doesn’t like it when the internet says anything negative. The Portus comment, from what I can remember wasn’t overly harsh, it was simply saying a brazed brake mount they’d put on Instagram was ‘messy’. There was no reference made to structural integrity or suggestion it was lacking in strength. Anyway, my question has been answered in more than one way so its all good, I wish them luck with their business.

They do get a fair amount of shit on line, unjustly so sometimes I think. It’s still a small and personal company ( as in they guys have a lot invested in it personally as well as financially, I like how accessible they are and that they’ll stand their ground if they think you’re calling it wrong. ST forum can be a bit of a vipers nest at times and things will start to slide down hill fast once there’s a sniff of blood in the water.

Either way the Have Blue bike is a stunner!

At least Neil from superstar stopped rising to the bait and I think he has matured to be a respected company all the more for the lack of defending every slight implied slur on his product.

There I fixed it for you.

I think it’s quite healthy to tell folks to **** right off sometime I used to do it till it dawned on me it’s hardly going to affect me in what I do or who I do it for then j couldn’t see the point.Someone wrote above if your good at what you do people will buy your stuff if your crap at it people won’t

Scratches sick bikes off ‘to buy’ list.

Not because of brazing pictures, but because of lack of info on website and bad attitude of owner

As far as I’m aware there are many bike manufacturers on here who get a hard time, it’s to be expected on a forum that discusses, amongst other things, bikes. Orange gets ripped to shreds on here but they let their products do the talking for them. I reckon Jordan should do the same, if he has a good product he’ll do well, if not he won’t.

It’s a bit weird when a manufacturer comes on a bike forum and tells us we aren’t his target buyer, the guy from shand did the same thing. I would have thought that if you are selling a 2k pushbike frame people who frequent bike forums are your core target audience. He must think so too if he’s going to featured in the mag.

I think most folks on here would be open to buying pretty much any bike if it was good value, quality, and fit for purpose. I’m not after a ti gearbox bike right now, but I could well have been interested in something from them down the line.

Tbf to Jordan, I can see why he’d be protective of something he’s put alot of time and passion into. I probably would be too. But when you put a product out there you have to expect a certain amount of criticism, and as much as he doesn’t like it, it’s probably going to be better in the long run to turn a blind eye to it.

Didn’t even think Sick got a hard time. OP stated:

It just seems, to my completely uneducated eye, that the welding appears to be quite messy compared to other custom framebuilders I follow

Id be asking the same …i dont know anything about welding but the pics posted of the welds on the Sick bike frame dont look like what id be expecting to my untrained eye so seems a perfectly reasonable question to raise on a bike forum. Few fairly innocuous comments from BenC (who, frankly, i consider one of the ‘good guys’ on stw) & others and Sick bikes get all flouncy…Sick bikes are going to need a thicker skin if they’re want to play the long game

Bike company owner comes on Stw, slags off Stw for discussing his company/products, comes across badly. Standard. Anyone who’s followed this place for a while has seen it before and will again.

Produce good products and let them do the talking.
