My steel hardtail is due for a respray, and I am thinking of having it powder coated in a metallic gold colour.

Can’t decide if it will look nice or minging, so I’d appreciate some pictures from anybody who has done this.

Close-ups would be good to, to see what the sparkle looks like.

    Thanks.

I think there might be a reason for that!

I got an old steel road frame powdercaoted metallic gold and I think it looks mint. It really shows off the frame though, so if it’s a bit of a munter like my 456, I wouldn’t. What frame is it?

It’s a Genesis Altitude steel hardtail.

I’ve seen a couple of shades of gold paint, and some are far nicer than others.

Just do a google search for 1996 Kona Cindercone – the best looking bike of all time, for all the inspiration you need.

    Gary,
Strangely enough, I followed a van with the word “caldera” on it this morning, and it reminded me of the kona caldera & cindercone models.

Googled the cindercone and quite like that – need to think carefully about headset & seatclamp colours now.

    Thanks.

belugabob – Yeah, they are great bikes, and anyone who describes the colour of a 96 Cindercone as ‘minging’ has no taste whatsoever! 🙂

I think the actual colour was ‘swamp green’ or something like that, as it isn’t bright gold, but looks great all the same.

need to think carefully about headset & seatclamp colours now.

I reckon subtle and understated will do nicely. Maybe silver, like the one up there? ^^^

Another Kona, the Kula from the mid 90s looked pretty cool IIRC

That’s more like the colour I had in mind – what bike is that?

Its between gold and the rockshox fork colour, (depending on the sun) the red finishing kit combo really works.

    And a 29er too – what’s not to like?

It’s just a shame that I can’t see that colour on their website, to get a better feel for it – any chance of some close-ups? (fnarr)

Gold bikes, makes me think of when my uncle had one of these

I think you could get away with a gold bike if you kitted yourself out with this

and styled your hair like this

    Now that would ooze class!

(Disclaimer: I would ride a bike whatever the colour, and used to have a mullet when at school, though not the tache and still probably couldn’t grow a decent one now either).

Hmm, my ickle black steel GT Chucker that was ridden a week then stored for 6 years has some annoying rust spots and I was getting round to sorting it as I built it back up again. I think I’ll paint it gold and get some decals to make it look pretty 🙂
