Looking over the 29ers – whats the difference between the scandal & inbred frames?

is the scandal beefed up for the trails & inbred xc?

scandal is aluminium and inbred is steel.

there is a significant weight difference. scandal feels stiffer too.

just popped out and weighed mine. Bare 16″ Scandal 29er frame painted in BRG (not the anodised one) is 1607g. A whopping 219g more than my carbon 456 frame! How heavy is an inbred 29er?

    Scandal and Inbred?

Inbred – general trail/XC and treking (has rack mounts).

Scandal – general trail/XC and racing (as lighter)

Both have same geometry as far as I know.

oddly enough I consider my scandal 29er (original one) to be the most compliant frames Ive owned. Thats when compared with a pompino, a 26″ DN6 Inbred and a Ti29er.

Im probably going to get one of the new ones because I want the slotted swapout, and when I do will be able to do a back-to-back comparison with one of the first generation frames.

mine certainly bends a lot when I watch it while its mounted on my Turbo trainer.

does the longer chainstay and larger wheel not add to the flexibility?

I went for a scandal over the inbred as I had read the scandal was still quite complaint but nice and light.

Just need some wheels and forks now to finish it.

probably. but in comparison with the Ti29er (smaller frame size though: 19.5″ as opposed to 21″ Scandal) I find the Ti more rufty tufty, eager to go forward, direct etc, but the scandal seems better at smoothing out the lumps in the rock hard clay round here at the moment without kicking at the back so much.
