Pretty sure I have been taken for £48 here by a very convincing website:

ordered a pair of vans shoes on 22 December from

http://www.farmhousepizza-stoneleigh.co.uk

I got a generic type email from a 3rd party company saying they had processed the payment of £48. Check bank statment few days later and they took 55$, turns out company is based in USA!. Only possible contact is through the website form (not emails or contact numbers etc), ignored all contact to date.

I did a bit of research and a few others have reported the same, payments taken on visa debit and nothing ever deliverd and no further correspondence. Seems this site has been up for 120 days already. I found a UK registered name and address for the site. Seems the site may be routed via the Caribean.

reported to 101 (actionfraud) who were good but no holding much hope. Any suggestions would be appreciated ? Not tried HSBC yet as hold no hope there as I entered the card details and hit “buy now”.

I had a similar problem when buying some hair straighteners from http://www.eastlondonkebabhouse.co.uk, and again when buying some beefburgers from http://www.hatsandscarves.com

What? If you’ve been ripped up they can do a charge back and get you sorted right away

The About Us page is one of the most brilliantly vague things I’ve ever read! The URL being completely different from the shop name sets off alarm bells right away though (or the less subtle Binners version!)

You can still advise your bank and seek a charge back, you maybe better talking to the fraud dept.

Worst website ever, personally one look at the URL would have had me running for the hills.

Not one ounce of contact information anywhere on that website which is normally a dead giveaway something’s not right.

Hope you manage to get your money back, if you after cheap vans go and have a look on M and M direct or extremepie.

OP.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but give your sources of payment to a younger member of the family. Next time you fancy buying some shoes from a pizza website, just run it past them first.

…by a very convincing website….

Ok, my trolling detector just raised a quizzical eyebrow.

I’ve just checked out their website hoping to get a pizza the action. Not any styles I like which is a shame.

Would love some half cabs with extra anchovies.

Ha..ha.. yes I had clocked the name.. hsbc have refunded under visa guidlines so may well work out. I was searching “vans shoes” originally and it throws up some small online stores with very random names.

From the About Us source code – is this what they mean by vans shoes?

About Us

<meta name=”description” content=”cbvmotors-redditch.co.uk About Us. With the development of 10 years, we get to know the industry better and better.” />

Pretty sure that site has been hacked.

Yeah, and I am the first person to buy from a website with a funny name…

why do you think it is hacked ?

It’s less the name, and more the whole website looks fake.

Anyway, which model Vans where you after?

I was initially a bit unsure regarding the returns and lack of contact details.

why do you think it is so obviously fake ? Glad I reported it to police. What is strange is it has been operational for 120 days and polce were not aware!

why do you think it is so obviously fake ?

1. The name of the website
2. The name of the website not matching the name of the store.
3. No contact details.
4. Odd pricing. Both discounts and original RRP.
5. Vague, or just odd, copy.
6. No SSL certificate.
7. Whatever this is:

8. Etc

plus… they take western union… they’ve left dollar prices in a few places on the site… the “about us” page is 5 paragraphs and yet tells you absolutely nothing about the company (very generic, almost like the entire site is a template…)

As already said above plus the ‘about us’ page doesn’t mention Vans, a bit odd for a seller specialising in Vans.
No Vans logos anywhere

Size 11 Ham and Mushroom

I’ll have a slice of that Vans action

Reason for Return:
Dead On Arrival
Faulty, please supply details
Order Error
Other, please supply details
Received Wrong Item

I often buy trainers which are dead when they arrive…

Yes it is a serious post. All the I.T bods are pointing out how obvious the site is, when already told it was dodgy. Still up there are likely attracting others.

I’m no expert but wouldn’t it be prudent to cancel the card and get it replaced.

Sympathy here. Its looks real enough if you don’t go into too much detail and certainly as real as some other genuine websites

I’m not an ‘IT bod’ but a website I’ve never heard of specialising in Vans, that has no contact details, has nonsense ‘about us’ info and is named after a pizza shop in epsom would alert me to the fact it’s not legit.

It looks similar to the many fake oakley sites.

been scammed for some Vans?

I’m sure we can get to the foot of the problem.

Let’s hope you aren’t the sole victim.

The site looks like a load of cobblers.

Yeah that’s the address I passed on. Point taken about the blurb not adding up, but it was a fairly cheap pair of shoes, hence not a full run through all the site. Found it on general google search, browsed trainer (loads of sites don’t have the vans logo on), added to basket and paid via a visa registered handler… so not that unusual.

Probably bought/registered with stolen credit card/details. I would be very surprised if someone setting up a fake website, would then put their contact details as the registrant.
