Any suggestions as to which one for the car? Are there any particularly important features, add-ons, usability issues or hidden costs I should be aware of? I’m happy to pay more upfront if I’m saved from buying twice or having to upgrade later.

All advice from the hive mind much appreciated 😀

I use Waze on my iPhone. If you already have an Android or similar, there are plenty free options.

Otherwise a Garmin of any sort would be a good buy.

Had my TomTom for 5+ years and can’t see any reason to change it. Not something I see as gaining new features all the time that make it worth changing or upgrading.

I needed a 2nd one, so I got a cheap chinese one of ebay.

I wasn’t expecting much, but for the money it has been superb.

The fittings are not as good as qualtity as the branded units but you pays your money….

    ebay

It comes with iGo8 with European coverage, not sure if it is completely legit software…..

Or Garmin. Very happy with new Nuvi 2400

No need for fancy features – the basic models do the job well and I remain unconvinced by the traffic services. Someone’s bound to come along and say they’re great now….

TomTom Go Live 1000 for £110 at PC World. Wouldn’t normally recommend them but this seems to be a really good deal.
