    Why gears?

Cos it's a commercial product not aimed at fashionistas?

Why oh why do they give it such a tall HT???

No it don't….it's a minger not even a tourer a crosser or a road bike proper cacky.
If you like that sort of thing then I think the Genesis attempt is far better.

I saw this at core and it looked great. The kind of bike that will taunt you "oi sissy let's ride to that cake shop in the Pyrenees". And when you ain't on the grand tour it's a great crosser get about bike.
If only you could single speed it too – but no shame in a tensioner.

Apart from the disc brakes it looks like something dug out of a shed after 30 years, or is that the idea?

The nice man from salsa said it replaces the crosser and is really the old steel crosser but with rack and mudguard facilities. So it's now a crosser that can tour.

granted, when you mix it up it wont fit a classic crosser/tourer/etc box. for me tho, bikes like that show some thought by the designers. i had a roadrat for that reason, im not flush with cash and while my love is off road the rat allowed me to commute via terrain other than road, days out with the panniers, ss, fast tyres. all on one bike. and i guess that if any of those styles had become more serious of course id get specific. shame i had to sell it to pay the taxman.

Bit of a ten ton tessy for cross, and I still have a thing for the old Galaxy.
OK I could see that fully laden bimbling down a dust road in India, but Tasty?

yes tasty, esp as there is a nipple for a pump!

On the geometry front, Salsa is catering for the discerning rider by offering the frame in eight different sizes ranging from 50 to 60cm. That means 1cm increments in the middle of the range, ie 50, 52, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58 and 60 cm.

    dont see that often either

I like the look of the Salsa.

Ton – have you got the standard spec LHT? Bar-end shifters etc? Does it feel heavy? Pics??

I like practical bikes. I like go anywhere bikes.

But, by god, that thing is ugly. Please, someone, put it out of my misery.

    🙁

I'm not hugely keen on that. It's a good sort of bike though. 🙂

Have they published its weight? Do crossers have to be light?

the frame sort of reminds me of my 1990 explosif with that compact frame and long headtube. that rode very nicely.

Mike – thebikechain in Edinburgh have one in stock. Drop us an email and Mark should be able to weigh it for you (it's a 54, standard build).
