Ryan Air. Weight limit for taking a bike?

Reading there website it would seem they have a new limit of 15kg (33 lbs) for sports/bike equipment. Last year was 30kg? Anyone traveled with them recently and if so did you get charged for excess, and how much per kilo. Thanks.

Don’t know for sure but I imagine there is no weight limit on what you can take, just don’t expect them not to feel your **** arse for the priviledge.

Last year there was no limit (32kgs due to baggage handlers restrictions) and can’t see anything on their site that mentions weight restrictions for bulk sports items. Perhaps phone? Would be interesting to know.

Can absolutely guarantee with Ryanair that it will be impossible to find on the website so they can nail you for a huge extra at the airport. As an example they are the only airline in the world that doesn’t allow IATA standard sized bags as carry on luggage without charge but you have to go into the minutae on the website to find this.

As above, the only limit as far as I was told was the baggage handlers H&S limits [32kg, I believe]

Not sure what you mean CaptainMainwaring but the cabin baggage limits are listed on the baggage part of the FAQ page [2 clicks from the home page] & seems clear enough to me.

Cabin Baggage Allowance

Each passenger (excluding infants) is permitted to carry one piece of cabin baggage on board (free of charge). Strictly one item of cabin baggage is permitted per passenger (excluding infants). Handbag, briefcase, laptops, etc must be carried within your permitted 1 piece of cabin baggage. It should weigh no more than 10kg and not exceed the maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm.

It seems that sports equipment comes under “checked baggage” which is 15kg. You still have suitcase allowance of 10kg, which you pay for. So bike will now go in a cardbord bike box. Any bike bag just adds too much weight. Trawling the web and reading posts its still pot luck whether the Ryanair/Airport charge the excess, but at £15 per kilo that could cost you an awful lot. I’ll let you know how we get on.

Personally, I wouldnt trust my bike with Ryannair.
