is there a good route planning thing for europe, like bikehike, where you can add route markers as you plot.

Where in Europe? If the OSMcycle map coverage is good you can use Bikehike also for Europe…or anywhere in the world really. I’ve recently used it for a trip in America and have used it before for routes in Spain too.
