What I don't understand is people who have a wankathon over the tour and are probably on here whining about football, I'm pretty sure it won't happen the other way around. Get over yourselves accept some people like it and just don't watch it if you don't like it. Next you'll want Steve Peat as Sport personality of the year…

you're just cross i aint coming to the alps with you aren't you?

Loathe football now. Used to go to matches in my teens (family tradition). London club, just in case anyone wants to know. 🙄

Would like a trial period as a WAG … any vacancies do you reckon?

Football-free zone at C_G Towers for a week … then my son arrives. Of course, once he starts bellowing, that bl**dy baby next door will scream even more. 👿

The government is worried that mens penis's are getting smaller. To find out how great the problem is they have asked all men with penis's smaller than 3 inches to put a white flag with a red cross on their car 😀

    Poofs game.

Does that mean you're for it or against it?

    Or neither?

I'd rather suffer a migrain[e]; I can take painkillers and lie in a quiet darkened room for a couple of hours

not hard to tell that you don't actually get migraines then

I'm visiting my sister and partner this weekend. He's an avid fan and seems to think that I may in the remotest way be interested in what is going on at the world cup.

I'm not entirely sure if he gets the message – I don't even know which of these commentators he's talking about. Maybe I'll pretend to go to sleep in the England game tomorrow.

Footballers are not overpaid. Those earning £100k plus a week will be amongst the best in the world at a sport played by hundreds of millions of people. Football is a multi billion pound industry, so it follows that those at the top will be paid handsomely.

I don't get it, but then I've never been any good at playing it!

Dez – you coming to the IOW with us this year?

Interesting, I didn't think Sir Fred Goodwin or any bankers are over paid since they are the best at what they do. Same for most CEOs.

I may pay a passing interest but not that bothered. What I don't get is that people just watch it and not play it in any form at any level. At least with biking I particiapate and compete myself and the watching is just something extra.

And I like watching porn, but that doesnt mean I'm sha****g Jenna Jameson does it? And Woppit – "poofs game"? I never had you pegged as the macho type love. I really shouldnt have to say this on a mountain bike forum, but here goes. YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE.

To be honest, I was hoping for a bit of a stronger reaction, really. Must have sunk into one of the occasional STW "tolerance potholes"… 🙁

After yesterdays match, it's clear that there are also hundreds of England football fans out there who are CLEARLY much better than Rob Green, and who should all be stuck on a plane and sent over to SA immediately.

And what's the betting that ALL of England's shortcomings and failings in the World Cup get traced back to one thing – the mistake yesterday by the keeper.. Those football fans sure do like a scapegoat.

I did end up going to the pub yesterday to watch it, and as I was going for about my millionth pee of the day (bloody Strongbow), a guy tried to strike up a conversation in the loo (as you do). He asked me what I thought about how the game was going. I said that, to be honest, I wasn't all that bothered, as I was more of a rugby fan, and was just here with a few mates. The fact that this was said with a strong Welsh accent couldn't have helped really, as I was then looked at as if I'd just grown a second head, then told that I "was in the wrong place then"…. Why was I… ? It's a pub, I wanted a drink…. Sounds like the right place to me! T**t.

I think you will find that most fans play some form of the game, be it 5-a-side or whatever but remember it is a team sport so you need other people – something you don't need for a bike ride.

See you're wrong there! To people who are "into" football, its so much more – it's their main form of social interaction, amongst other things.

I used to endure situations with my customers who'd sit in groups day after day and talk about NOTHING other than football. What a dull narrow existence!

I used to watch my son play football, but gave that up because I just couldn't abide the idiotic undignified behaviour from too many of the people on the touch line. Or the cheating and fouling from the opposition, or the jeering nastiness from some of the opposition's supporters. Or the incompetence/bias of some of the ref's These numbnuts just have no concept of sportsmanship, but hey, that's football! A game which attracts some of the stupidest people in existence.

They take it too seriously and get too stressed! Earlier this year, one spectator at my son's club actually died from a heart attack at the side of this pitch! He died being too stressed over a football game!?!? What a monumental waste!

It's great when your team wins, but the atmosphere when they loose is painful. No fun at all!

Conversely, cricket is vastly more civilized. You rarely experience "gobshite" or animosity. It's a game where luck plays less of a part and individuals get a better chance to show their mettle.

Yeah right. More like he died from having heart disease.. heart attacks can be brought on by excitement of ANY kind, you've got to be kidding trying to link that specifically with football.

Can I just say, more world cup football please!

I went out for a road ride this morning and it was fantastic! No near misses, no crazy overtaking then turning left antics, no wing mirrors nearly clipping me. I presume all the football fans were still in bed after spending all night on the lash.

I think I may well have identified the shit driver demographic.

England all the way to the final, yay!
