Want to turn my old Inbred SS into a commuter, can you reccomend a gear ratio to suit a flat ride on road, the Truvativ front crank needs replacing so any gear ratio is possible.
    Thanks

42:18 would be a good starting point, if it’s dead flat then maybe 44:18

yep 42:18 is a good starting point.

I ended up going up to 44:18 after fitting some Continental Sport Contact 26 x 1.3’s on

Start with the larger of any chainrings/cogs you’re thinking of. Then if it doesn’t suit you will be shortening not lengthening the chain

42:18 would be really spinny, I manage with 48:18 on my pompino and it’s not flat.

I had 48:16 on my Inbred when commuting through London.
