    You’ve not really said what you want it for, other than not DH, and (more) fun going down. Once a year in the Alps, or a couple of trips to Inners? Or something a bit more capable than what you’ve got for caning Lakes descents, but still not too much of a chore to pedal up?

    I know you said ‘off the shelf’ but I’d probably look for something like a good secondhand RFX/SixPack/Moment/Nomad/El Guapo or as mboy says, a Foes works well for the larger rider- an FXR, or even an older Inferno.

    seriously thinking about buying some of the new 140mm 29r forks and just using my ventana el capitan with the seat down………. 8)
    handles snowden/nan bield/cader idris no worries.
