A couple of people have asked me so….

    Remember that dog I/we adopted?

    This one….

We still have him. He’s bloody great he is, even if he did bite Mrs Stratobiker, who said he had to go, but nobody wanted him so he’s still here.

Now, ever since he arrived i’ve been looking forward to the dog threads so that I can join in, but there ain’t been any. So I started one!!!!

Hello from Rex, my lovely boy….

How’s your dog doin? Any pics?

    Can’t resist a dogs thread.

Rex looks a fine figure of a (**** off huge) dog. Reminds me of my dad’s old giant GSD Mick who used to play with bricks like ‘normal’ dogs play with rubber balls.

    Anyway, our two –

A tired, grumpy, “why the hell are you taking my photo at this time of night?” Pablo (8 year old English Springer – possibly the handsomest dog in the world)

Also tired, but with more of an “OK then, just get on with it” attitude is Stig (5 year old alleged English Springer, but I suspect a smidge of Border Collie in the mix somewhere – definitely NOT the handsomest dog in the world – his name is ‘of the dump’ rather than any Top Gear reference)

And a rare picture of them together where they’re not sleeping, eating or fighting

This is my cousin’s dog, a Welsh Collie called Tilly(sp?)

Lovely dog and very clever, was in a bad state when my cousin got her. Started life as a working dog but got bored of sheep so was just left to fend for herself around the farm.

It’s easy to see why dog threads are always so popular. When I worked in the UK a lifetime ago, I was always impressed by the fondness of people there for their dogs.

Lifer–Tilly looks she is sitting in HER garden, surveying HER guests over for tea–cool picture.

Stratobiker—is that a long-haired shepherd or a Malinoise or ??? That dog would get your attention if one was breaking into your house with the intent to burgle!!!

Huxley would say hello, but at 4 he’s still not properly socialised. Rescue dogs can bring all sorts of fun to the party. We muzzle him in public because we can’t be sure of his reaction to dogs and people.

Our springer looking like a right idiot enjoying her icecream:

And yes that is a gravy bone 99. A very rare treat but she was having a hormonal time in season so that cheered her up.

He’s looking happy SB – and I’m guessing he didn’t have a serious go at biting Mrs SB or she’d be lacking a limb 😯

    Here’s Kasper running for a Matteson’s Fridge Raider…

That steroid dog ^^^ There’s a bunch of lads go hunting in the nearby country park with staffie-greyhound cross dogs – they look a bit like that abomination.

Lol! 🙂 Great pics. What a load of softies we are eh? Dogs are ace.

@busydog – as far as we know he’s an alsation/GSD. He certainly acts like one, but who knows.

Yes, he bit Mrs Stratobiker on the leg. Out of fear we think. We’re sure it would have been much worse if it had been an agressive bite, and as he doesn’t do agression we think it must have been fear. Like fearful due to being in a new/strange environment with nothing familiar other than a drinking bowl. I did ask the old owners sister if she had any articles of her brothers clothing, an old jacket or something that I could wear that would make me smell familiar, but she didn’t have anything.

Anyway, Mrs Strato’ had to take a trip to hospital, have tetanus jabs and a course of antbiotics. She said that Rex had to go, and it was suggested to us that we have him put down. He was given a month. But, nobody wanted him, and he’s such a lovely chap that Carla decided he should be given a second chance. I shot lots of video footage of how he bahaves with us and got some help from an animal psychiatrist!!!

Basically she said that Rex was stressed and fearful, porobably due to having a new home at the age of 10. She suggested a number of things we could do to help him relax. Two months down the line he’s brilliant, and him and Mrs Strato’ are best of friends. Looking at how he is now to how he was, it was obvious.

    Soz, I’ve gone on a bit….but he’s my boy!!! 😉

Good on you for giving it a second chance. I guess you are the only ones who can tell if it was an aggressive act at the time. Fingers crossed it is sorted now and won’t do anything again. He is huge, I bed no one messes with you when he is around!

DD, She’s great. She’s toilet trained and now enjoying obedience classes. We’re not letting her off her lead yet as her recall isn’t quite there yet. She’s a very sociable dog and just wants to play with every dog and person she meets.

She’s still nipping a bit (only with me though) but I think that’s more to do with wanting attention, and she’s still teething, but that’s getting better.

Our dog class has suggested we take her to agility classes as she’s very intelligent and she would enjoy it. Mrs MM is quite keen to do that to keep her stimulated.

Molly is very cute. Have you needed to strip her yet?

    She’s still nipping a bit

    &

    she’s still teething

I’d say those two things are very connected. We can do whatever we want to Molly now, and even if she opens her mouth, the second it comes near our hands, she closes it and just licks instead. I’m sure the same will happen with Dottie.

She’s very quick to bare her teeth if a bigger dog winds her up though 😯 We’re working on this – I hope i doesn’t get her into trouble.

I was thinking the same thing with Molly…tbf, the breed is quite clever in general. I’m sure you’ve been surprised at how quickly Dottie picks things up. I reckon she’d love all the jumping (although I hear the weaving in and out of poles can be a bit of a nightmare 🙂 )

Molly is very cute. Have you needed to strip her yet?

No, not yet…I think she could do with one, but she’s a bit gorgeous at the moment – I dread having to have her stripped.

The only other thing to keep an eye out with Dottie is chasing other animals…squirrels, rabbits, birds, etc. Molly’s needed a firm hand when it comes to this – BTs get themselves into all kinds of fixes chasing. I’d give her her head if we lived in the countryside but in an urban environment, a chase can head for the road in a flash.

andyl’s pic is great!! Dog with ice cream – always guaranteed a mess!!

I’d love to get a dog, but couldn’t give it a full enough life at the moment as we not often at home.
If I did, reckon it would be a Boxer or a rescue hound.
