You don’t need to be at the forefront of the latest trend, it’s a great way to lose your money though.
Have a look on Ebay, Amazon etc, you will find products that sell at a decent volume and have a good margin to work with.
I contract work 3 days a week as my proper job, and am involved in a small mail order set up which sells predominantly via Ebay, Amazon & our own website. We started with £150 between us 3 years ago & are set this year to break the £100k turnover barrier, with a gross margin of 175-225%. We have a couple of staff now who are on zero hours contracts to do all of our picking and packing to free up our time to help us take the next steps.
There will come a point in the not too distant future where I go full time into this, but it’s a bit like cutting the apron strings, I’ve only ever worked for someone before, so the whole experience has been a massive learning curve, and no doubt will continue to be so.
It’s fun, but also quite stressful, as it grows more & we need to employ people on a more perminant basis the feeling of responsibility gets worse.
