All in, I think I'm into it for £4.6k which is utterly ridiculous and far more than I've ever spent on a bike, but funded by the split and sale of my other two bikes, I should beyond breakeven.
I think with summer rubber and a lighter dropper, I could shave another 450g from the build, so another 1lb.
Happy with the colour match for Chris King Matte Slate
Other than a quick pedal I can't report on the ride so far.
Good lord, my wife is very understanding but I'd be under the patio by now if she found my bike on the sofa!
Looks very nice indeed, I'm genuinely surprised by the weight given it's a pretty sensible build (admittedly there's some £ for lb gear on there but nothing stupid by the looks)
It's the bench seat in the kitchen - it's where we all sit to remove muddy shoes, etc. TBH - with 2 kids, the back of our sofa is probably dirtier than anything the MTB could do to it.
Good lord that looks stunning.
Very tasty.
The XR4s are my summer rubber though.
Looks superb
Nnng. Such wonderful looking bikes, lovely spec too. Thoroughly green with envy, great work, sir.
I thought there was an 18 month waiting list for a Spur or as it used?
Used - although there is a Large Spur in stock somewhere in the country and it's still at last years (this years?) prices. I bought the full bike and have sold what I didn't want (SRAM, Renthal, Specialized, Maxxis, etc) and added what I did (King, Enve, Oneup). Some of this was done because I prefer things, but a lot was done to quiet down the aesthetic at the same time. There was just too much going on.
These are some of the first new (from a shop) components I've ever bought in my 18 years of MTBing. My Last full suspension bike was bought second hand over 7 years ago.
Very nice and insanely light!
I thought from the thread title that this was a question - but you already knew the answer and it's the same one I'd have given.
Spur looks awesome. If I lived somewhere less rocky and rode with more finesse I'd have one in a heartbeat. Very nice.
Now THAT is very, very nice!
Very nice and insanely light!
+1
I keep getting the urge to try a full sus again and that really, really, hasn't helped!
Its lovely that.
And it just goes to show what came out of the recent thread on the same subject:
"Short Travel Full Sus" is such a broad range of bikes, as evidenced by how different that build is to my bike which also fits the same rough description.
Really cool, that thing will be QUICK.
that thing will be QUICK.
Fairly sure I could prove you wrong on this, every bike I've ever ridden(or will) its just a varying degree of slow.
I keep looking at spur's as a potential replacement for my aged smuggler.
and then I think I could get an ebike for that...
and then I don't buy either.
Large in stock at Dalby bike barn

Bloody lovely.
£4.6k for that spec is about half-price - how did you manage that?
Second hand bike with a decent spec, stripped what I didn't want and then scoured the world for what I did. Hubs from the US, HS from Japan, BB from Spain, Rims from PB/China, Spokes from Belgium, Rotors from Australia. Tyres, K-edge mount, valves, stem, bars, brakes from the UK. The rims weren't the ideal aesthetic - I don't like the white and can't remove it, but will later cover it with a gloss black decal and otherwise the spec was perfect. I was also lucky in that the colour of things I wanted was both in-stock and not that popular, so discounted. Everything I bought with the exception of the valves was discounted by at least 30%, even the brakes.
Very lovely.
Where did you find the brakes at a 30% discount?
That is lovely and from your previous thread, the only real answer to your question. Tell me more about how you settled on that size.
And why did the previous owner want rid?
Really cool, that thing will be QUICK.
Not until he puts some bloody pedals on and reweighs it...
I think pedals break scales
Great bike, great build. You'll love it. Bloody cheap for that build too. I'm guessing alot of that cost was postage from the far flung corners of the world!
Second hand bike with a decent spec, stripped what I didn’t want and then scoured the world for what I did.
Great work. You said £4.6k is 'utterly ridiculous' , but that's a £9k+ build. Enjoy!
“£4.6k for that spec is about half-price”
That explains why my 29” hardtail weighs so much more!
Nice bike, v nice bike!
Not until he puts some bloody pedals on and reweighs it…
Nobody weighs with pedal on them. Bikes aren't supplied with pedals and so their quoted weights are without them.
Anyway - Time Atac XC8s will add around 330g to the build, so 11.47kg. There will also be lights and a bell 😉
@Onzadog - he was getting an ebike...
Meh. Picture 3rd from left, top row, isn't straight (first photo).
Bench cushion is ruffled.
Bike's OK I suppose!
Nobody weighs with pedal on them
Bollocks.
Companies selling bikes don't, people using them do.
Anyway. Looks great. And good to see someone trying to keep the bike light 🙂
I would love a Spur, but for some reason, I'd want to try a coil shock and stick a smashpot in a pike if I was doing it.
Amazing build, and also amazing how cheap you did it for.
I think my GX build with carbon wheels and bar weighs 12.4kg with pedals so your build is seriously light too.
I would love a Spur, but for some reason, I’d want to try a coil shock and stick a smashpot in a pike if I was doing it.
I still rate mine, it’s now the second best bike I’ve ever had (Element that has replaced it is better, mostly because it fits me better) & I ran mine with a Pike & a non piggyback Deluxe Utlimate which was a sizeable improvement on the SID stuff (and I got bored of having to warranty the shock, evidently so did SRAM as they sent me the DU rather than another SID.
Admittedly mine regularly saw trails it didn’t have any business on, but that’s a testament to how good it was as a bike. I’m not a fan of the original suspension, but I expect it’s probably fine for most people.
Properly nice. They just look great. Enjoy!
That's crazy light and looks very good. Well done.
@HobNob - I've also had issues with the SIDluxe and my local riding is pretty tame. I think it's just a badly designed shock.
Planning on upgrading to a Fox 34 / DPS combo or Ohlins setup when I have some spare funds. Quite happy to take the small weight penalty.
That's lovely. Lusted after a Spur when they were first announced and I was still riding my Tallboy 3 - looked like the perfect replacement. A couple of years later and I still lust after one, despite settling on geometry that I know suits me better than a Spur, even in XL, would.
Top work on the build for that price too.
Nobody weighs with pedal on them
Bollocks.
Companies selling bikes don’t, people using them do.
Well, I think that's a moot point. Some people do clearly weigh without pedals to get the "industry standard" figure as a point of comparison.
No need to wade into a nice new bike thread being all aggressive about it though, is there?
Blimey, that bike has a bigger carbon footprint than my car.........worth more too!
V.nice - almost makes me want a full suss again.
Lovely bike and spec. I'm fortunate enough to also own a lightweight Spur. Its a pleasure to ride. The suspension seems to cope so well considering its only 120mm each end. I actually really like the SID stuff, but am very aware of the issues people have with the fork bushings. Mine fortunately ok at the moment. Fingers crossed. Might be down to the amount of use, as its my 3rd bike and they all get ridden - I do try to save the Spur for the drier days and look after it a bit more due to the cost! SIDluxe is a little squelchy, but seems to work ok when peddling, so I ignore that 🙂
I have tried to keep mine as light as possible, whilst being capable. carbon bars/cranks/KS carbon dropper, DTSwiss 391/240exp hubs/rekon tanwall, xt 12s, Cura2. Its 25.5lb and feels rapid. A real pleasure to ride, especially on the longer days in the saddle
Blimey, that bike has a bigger carbon footprint than my car
Nah - air travel is all about weight and this has added lightness 🙂
That is ludicrously nice. Great build. Very much a yes
amazing bike and one of the best builds I've seen - tough, light and hopfully fun, the perfect do it all!!
No need to wade into a nice new bike thread being all aggressive about it though, is there?
Very true, I'm sorry.
Would love to spin a bike like that up Mam Tor or somewhere.
Love light bikes ( so long as they're good too, which I'm strongly guessing that one is)
I didn't take any offence at all 🙂
Final part arrived today - but a quick pedal revealed the AXS is being dopey, so need to look into that before the first ride. For fellow Spur owners, what do you weigh and how much pressure do you have in the rear shock? It seems high.
Anyway - thank you for all the kind comments - a couple of pics in daylight from today's quick spin.
First impressions of the Tech 4 E4s are very positive!
Perfect spec on that one!
Dream build!
Well done!
