currently got mud x on my 29er but reckon they are all a bit too skinny so looking for something a bit chunkier thats still good in the mud. Heard that the Maxxis Beaver is the dogs … but is it any fatter than the mud x

    They’re a bit bigger.

I’ve been using Specialized ground control S-Works all winter in 2.1″ and they’ve coped with everything easily.

Specialized Purgatory are bigger in 2.2″ and are a good all round tyre too, got them in 26″ on my FS and they’re as big as a 2.4″ Fat Albert

That’s a shame. Any suggestions for fatter tyre that’s still good in the mud or do I need to accept that they are skinny for a reason.

Had 29er Beavers all winter, may not be much fatter but they are amazing and are actually fairly fast rolling. I love’d the mud x but it’s beaver for me from now on.
