I have a cane creek 110 headset picked up cheap last year and wondering if it’s possible to cut the crown race to make it a split. I could end up swapping the forks between bikes so would be handy.

Yes. But to cut it without deforming is the awkward bit. I’ve EDM wire cut mine in the past.

Why not just get a split crow race from somewhere and use that?

As long as it’s going into a cartridge bearing rather than having ballbearings run on it, go for it. No downside that I can find, as long as you’re not a titanic bodger anyway.

ditto for cutting. pop in in a vice and use a small hacksaw, tidy with file

had to cut mine into a split on my cris king as i didnt want to damage my carbon crown/steerer (it was very, very tight). I just ‘dremmeled’ it.

Always do this on non pre split ones. Never had a problem.

    might have hit a snag:

the rubber seal is not coming off like the hope races…

cut from the inside out and stop when the metal stops.

In any event even if you did go all the way through, just rotate the slit to the front or side.

am just about to do the same i think, its such a pita when its not split why do they make em solid? surely there must be a reason? maybe its cheaper to produce
