  • M980 XTR Pedal – adjust / refurb bearings?

After a year of use my M980 XTR pedals have a small amount of play in the axle. Can I just take the axle out, clean, regrease and reassemble? or is there a part to replace whilst I’m in there?

Take the body off the axle and you can adjust the bearing to take out any play.

    Should be straight forward.
You need 2 small spanners, 10mm and 7mm for most Shimanos.
Fill with grease and refit…they should last for years.
The first service/rattle is usually after about a year, then it will settle down and be years before needing doing again.

    Not like Crank Bros.

Just watch out for the collar seal which will push out when you purge with grease. A fine screw driver will allow you to push it back in.
