I can’t be bothrered reading all that!

    Can someone summarise?

MrNut is taking the whole faith/belief/religion thing more seriously because he’s not happy with who/how he is at present, then the usual STW arguments about religion, including Mr Woppit, then Elf appeared on a Woppit hunt.

    Standard STW thread really.

    FTFY.

    Fixed again…. 😀

Although, to be fair, yes, I’d agree that you are not being overly antagonistic, and on the whole, are being fair within the unwritten rules of debate on here.

right up to point where we have to put up with the implication that we are not worthy, going to hell, amoral

Did we get to that point in this thread? If so i think I missed it

No we didnt, nor was it even approached, but that doesnt stop people with “baggage” from hurling it at anyone with an interest in Faith.

See, thing is people aren’t allowed to be spritual, have faith, believe in what they want to anymore.

And is this the result of religious indoctrination? Orders from Rome? A crazed Mulla ranting in the desert? A rogue Yogi? A Shinto priest gone bad?

No it’s because Woppit cannot accept that some people have different beliefs. They are to be shouted down and ridiculed in equal measure. Oh the ironing…

In defence he thinks you can believe in any sort of gibberish nonsense you want
You can believe the moon is made of cheese and it controls the world via astrology but it is not an accurate method of understanding the world.
See what they did to heretics in the dark ages if you think his sarcasm and disdain is harsh and see how believers treat gays today or how many people kill people today for their faith. Atheist zealots are still much more civilized than believer ones and much less harmful to those they oppose.
Not that long ago what we said on here would have been an offence in law etc
Again the evidence does not match your view

Pretty much sums up my position also. Before you go off to do that though can you please give all the money back, relinquish your right to tax free status, stay out of the education systems with your nasty half baked fairy stories and while your at it stay out of politics and keep away from people in white coats who are trying to cure stuff and make people better.
In summary keep it all to yourself.

Pretty hard not to accept something for which there is such overwhelming evidence so, no – I completely accept that some people have different beliefs.

They are to be shouted down and ridiculed in equal measure.

I have never in my life, shouted anyone down. Indeed, I don’t see how that can be done on a text-based forum. Perhaps you can, er, enlighten me. Lord knows it’s difficult not to ridicule the ridiculous, I often find. Well, he doesn’t actually because, you know…

Wow, page 12… You’ve all been busy.

Those with a belief in any particular religion seek spiritual guidance from the ancient texts that were written thousands of years ago. Some of these might seem somewhat outdated now with an advancement of science, but other parts are still quite relevant. Interpreting the bible in our modern world is clearly one of the challenges. Exploring one’s faith may of course result in discovering a complete lack of it, but MrNutt is not wrong for wanting try. It’s a personal challenge to him, for which he has my admiration. Whether you agree/approve/accept of MrNutt’s desire to challenge himself in a more spiritual way is up to you, but the desire to want to make some improvement to the way you live your life is commendable in my opinion.

Personally I see this puerile school playground cockishness to be just to be the antagonists self proclamation of immaturity and lack of respect for other peoples birthright; that being the freedom to believe in what you like and explore/question your own Faith.

    So woppit, junkyard, crikey, etc

would you prefer that I believe in nothing? nothing unless it can be repeatedly proven 99% by controlled scientific test?

that I just follow your example? and have no Faith?

But then it is not proven that God does not exist now is it, perhaps you could show me that proof?

    you seem so convinced?

Give me that proof, unequivocal proof that there is no God. After all that is what you merrily proclaim.

show me the money or shut the **** up.

This thread is good, it’s been a bit of a journey of self discovery for me too.

I thought I was a humanist, went along to the local Humanist Society meeting last night… turns out I’m a naturist.

Oh dear – “I say something exists but you have to prove it doesn’t”.

How come you don’t even get THAT by now? What’s wrong with you? Oh, yeah…

I wonder if you’d dare say any of the things that you’ve been typing to my face woppit?

From what I hear you have considerably less courage than your conviction. Fancy a Pint?

And don’t worry, this isn’t a threat or promise of violence.

You care enough to keep reading and posting though. 😛

Don’t much see the point. I’d only be repeating myself and I doubt it would help you grasp simple logics which seem to be beyond your reach.

Given your self-proclaimed tendency to mindless violence, I REALLY don’t think I’m interested in wasting any of my time talking face to face with a thug. Thankyou. This’ll do just fine.

    Mr Nutt,

I’ve not been reading this thread for a couple of days because I got bored with it. But some of the things you have been entering recently just don’t make sense.

Your first post seemed to be asking for help in deciding which way to go. Your later posts indicate that far from not knowing, you appear to have definatetly made up your mind (I suspect before you first posted). What I’m afraid you are experiencing though is not a leap of faith, but simple guilt.

Why would you change your persona so significantly? You make it sound like you were a real shit before you looked for answers in god (or faith).

I’m not sure you understand the meaning of faith. Faith isn’t something you believe in, it is the belief in something. I have faith that gravity will bring me down to earth when I fall off my 29er, it is NOT faith that brings me to the ground.

Faith will not make you do good things or stop you from doing bad things, try being a good person and not being afraid of some ultimate reprisal.

I was about to type a really long post of my thoughts, but we’re talking about religion. Each to their own, I don’t care if others want to believe in ghosts, the super-natural, black magic, fortune tellers, religions, mystics, magic crystals, powerbands, any of that hokey stuff. It’s entirely up to them. If it gets them through the day and makes them act in a nice way towards other people, all the better.

The only thing I want to know is.. do you think god give a sh’one’t about whether you believe / actively worship? And if he does, why doesn’t he do something mega awesome to get people back into churches… how about sending his daughter this time?

Maybe heavens getting pretty full so it eases the pressure have less ‘god botherers’?
