Why do they always play Whole Lotta Love?
The bit in the middle is just a **** racket.
Ramble On is a lot more radio friendly.

    Think it’s the “current” single.

The bit in the middle is just a **** racket.

It’s just Page and Plant having sex with a theremin.

Hardly a Zep-only problem is it? I assume you’re listening to a commercial station and they do this with every band. If you are young and get your musical history from the radio, you would think that Faith no More only did “Epic”, Sabbath’s only single release was “Paranoid” and Jane’s Addiction were a 2003 one-hit-wonder with “Just Because”.

Perhaps in the Zep case, it’s to do with short attention spans and intros – I’d agree that Ramble On in its entirety is more radio friendly, but it properly kicks in at the first chorus, with a so-so intro. Whereas the first three seconds of Whole Lotta Love is one of those “Yeah!” riffs..

But the drum break at the end of it is vintage Bonzo.

I always thought the best track on that album was Lemon Song.

IIRC, 6Records has played various other Zep tracks recently.

Can I mention The Clash in this thread too!?

The breakdown adds tension, anticipation and ultimately resolution.
See also LA Woman, Marquee Moon etc etc.

Doesn’t suit every song, but when it works, you know about it.

You’re listening to the wrong station. The station I listen to plays lots of Led zep including plenty of their more obscure stuff. Likewise with Jimmy, the stones, queen etc etc.

The R2 default LZ track is Rock and Roll if I’m not mistaken and it drives me nuts. It’s not a bad track but it’s not their best and why can’t they be a bit more creative? Is it a track length thing?
