I’m currently building up a 2002 Kona Lava Dome with a 68 mm bb shell.

    Should I get a 113mm axle or a 118mm one? Sorry if I’m being a bit thick!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    For which chainset?

I had a 2003 Lava Dome – i used shimano square taper M440 cranks and it used a 113mm axle.

i had to go for a 118 on my 1997 one iirc as the 113 caused some scuffing on the chainstay

Thanks people, great help. I think I’ll go for the 118 as it does look a bit tight.

Drac – It’s an Octane One Isis chainset I’ve got knocking around, I don’t know if this will make a difference?

Going for a double and bash set up. 8)

The axle length goes off your chainset not your frame, it’s to do with the chain line.

    Most isis will use 113mm

Cheers Drac, I’ll try the 113 then.

I’ll post some pics up here when it’s done, but I must warn you, it’s got purple anodized bits on it.
