  • How do I get the smell of sick out of my car?

Daughter threw up in the back of the car on Thursday on the way to school.
I cleaned it up straight away but it stinks!
Any tips for getting rid of the smell?

Was thinking more of a cheap DIY solution, so pro valetudinarian is out.

What do I do with the bicarb?

You want some bio brisk, it’s a valeting detergent specifically for getting biological stains out – blood, wee and puke. It’s also pretty amazing on all other kinds of dirt.

However, if you’ve not got a wet vacuum, just lob the car at valeting man. Not worth the time and cash to get the kit together.

Valeter should do just a small area for a much reduced price.

I just covered the sick area with bicarb, left it for a few hours and then vacuumed it off. Quick spray of febreeze and it was the last i ever thought about it

I use Bio Brisk and its great for getting rid of such smells.

it will cost you about £20/Litre (without trade account) but you will need an Extraction machine otherwise it will stay in the upholstery. Cloths to soak it up won’t work.

Once you have hired an extraction vac (probably £25-£45) and bought the Bio Brisk (£20) you may as well just have paid for a Valet.

As a guide, I would charge £45 to just do a “specialist” clean like that. Which would really be a full interior valet by the time it’s done.

The problem with a spot clean, is that unless the seats are brand new with no dust etc whatsoever, the water moves whatever dirt is in the seat to the edges of the wet area, and when it’s dry you have a huge “water mark”

If you do a spot clean on a seat, you then need to shampoo and extract the whole seat to make sure you don’t leave it worse than you found it. (And the other seats will then need doing unless you want them to look dirty next to the clean one)

Thing is its a 16 year old car that gets dirty bikes and kids chucked in it. It’s never going to be spotless, I just want it to smell better!

Just go get a can of foaming car shampoo, fire than on the seat with the spew on it. Job done.

It could be spotless, you just need the right man on the job that’s all 😉

Keeping it like that might be more of a challenge though 🙂

    Good work! 8)

When it’s time to sell I’ll make sure it gets a good clean.
In the meantime I’ve got better things to do……

I’ve got a wet vac you can borrow Si. I can bring it on Sunday if you want it? The cleaning element of it doesn’t work anymore, but you can still put loads of liquid down on the carpet and suck it up with the vac.

Bicarb of soda works for stinky shoes.
I recall something about chopped radishes getting the stank of sour milk out of fridges. Might work on car sick as well.

Definitely the bicarb – youngest did the vilest toxic vomit the other night, MrsMCTD bicarb’d it next day and you would never know anything had happened.

Vomiting child plus height of cabin bed = amazing splatter effect, btw

Spilt milk in mine, lots of. Bi carb absorbs smell but did not eliminate it. I used kitchen anti bac spray, one that kills all germs. Applied vey liberally to kill the bacteria, it’s this that causes the smell. After lots of anti bac. Then lots of bi carb. Worked with milk. Good luck.

My neighbour is good with cars, he just resprays his leather seats with a rattle can. Really.

Pop some roadkill under the seat, it will trump the odour and you’ll be doing your bit for the environment too. I made the last bit up. And the first bit.
