    But not Home Alone.

The missus is away for a few days, so I get to watch whatever TV I want need to fill the lonely void left by her absence. I’m fresh out of coke and hookers, so hey, movie nights.

I’m thinking something blokey that wouldn’t be her first choice of viewing, so maybe action / sci-fi / horror genres. Whilst I’m fond of cerebral movies generally, nothing too cerebral here. Quite fancy a bit of sci-fi tonight, but open to rest-of-the-week suggestions also.

    What’ve you got?

Ooh. That sounds right up my alley, I’m a bit of an Apollo geek. Maybe not what I’m in the mood for tonight, but definitely going on my “to watch” list, ta.

Ooh, there’s always The Martian, I’ve not seen that yet. Recommended?

    Minions

That’s one we’re both likely to want to watch, but yeah.

That’s not a bad shout actually. I have that somewhere and I’ve never got around to seeing it.

Saw a cool horror called “Babadook” on Netflix the other day. Worth a go!

Yep, Martian was fine to pass the time on a flight, but not brilliant.

Really enjoyed Seven Psychopaths if you’ve not seen it?
Other than that, In Bruges is a top film.

Another good idea, that’s been bandied about in SFX’s “Penny Dreadful” column for months. (And not, as I initially typed, Penny Dreadflu.)

Oh, what about Interstellar? Is that any good?

    Have you seen Deliverance?

I’m not sure. If I have it’s a very long time ago.

You see, it’s not necessarily a supply issue, but more one of quality control.

(Also, we were just talking about Deliverance…)

Guardians of the Galaxy watchable multiple times, as is Scott Pilgrim vs the World.

The Christian Bale Batman films always stand up well to repeat viewing?

Guardians of the Galaxy watchable multiple times,

Deliberately only watched it once so far. Will watch again next time it’s available on a flight. (About the only place I watch films these days! )

I loved the Babadook when I watched it.

Moneyball has just come up on Netflix, watched it today, really enjoyed it

    SFX’s “Penny Dreadful” column

It’s a hell of a lot better than Penny Dreadful (almost literally).

Southern Comfort – all time fave of mine that. Fab fillum

    Or Chappie

No, and no. I saw the trailer for Chappie a while back and it looked ace, I think we might have a winner there. I’ll see if it’s available anywhere.

Ex Machina looks good too. Ta.

Romper Stomper is a violent but very good small budget Australian movie – made about 30 years includes a young Russell Crowe.

I think I’ve seen all of those bar Outland, which rings a bell but I can’t place.

Looked on Netflix for Chappie and Ex Machina, neither came up but a suggestion was Trollhunter. As it was on my ‘to watch’ list and also suggested here, I’ll go with that for tonight.

    Keep ’em coming though, appreciated.

    The Descent.

    And not the US edit.

One of my fave films of any genre, and up there with The Thing for atmospheric horror.

Loved Trollhunter, rare for a comedy-horror to succeed on both counts.

The disappearance of Alice Creed, with Gemma Arterton proving she’s not just about the looks. The less you know about it the better.

Interstellar was a huge disappointment. I usually love Nolan’s stuff but this had laughably clunky Basil Exposition and syrupy sentiment.

Oh yeah, Outland appears to be 80s sci-fi cheese, I’m all over that like a tramp on chips. It’s entirely possible I’ve already seen it but I’m not sure so will see if I can track it down. High Noon meets Beowulf in space with Sean Connery, that’s got to be worth the price of admission.

And a friend has posted on Facebook that she’s rewatching Firefly at some point which reminds me, I need to rewatch The Cabin In The Woods this week. And possibly also Tucker & Dale vs Evil.

I could probably shoehorn Wrong Turn in there too.

I watched Dirty Harry and Charly Varrick, both for the first time in ages this week, top drawer but easy viewing.
