    Racing on hold!

After a lovely evening ride in the Surrey Hills on the race bike. A few fractures and broken sternum. Time for a bike upgrade. But no. Nationals for me 🙁 . So beware silver grey Mercedes ML’s around Chertsey.

Glad youre reasonably ok, but probably very sore.Lets hope they catch the scummies who probably were not insured to drive.

Rode across the mini roundabout and the guy turned into me. Police are checking local cctv for the car. I suspect it will turn up. Obviosly never noticed my white jersey, bright helmet AND flashing front light. Leaving the scene was disgraceful. Following cars were wonderful.

Not seen the bike yet, but “smashed to pieces” was all I remember. Glad I left the Defy at home to be honest.

Chest drain out tomorrow, wrist cast and I’m out of here!

Hope you get out tomorrow and the police follow this up. Hit and run is disgraceful . If they bother there will be alot of CCTV and traffic cams with NPR data available to them . Just take a few hours for a trawl of local area cams..

Get on the turbo and plug in some miles when you are up to it, but not too soon , oh and sleep lots, speeds recovery aparently

What is it with hit and run – are they just not man enough to take responsibility for hurting someone?
Heal quickly and glad you’re not too badly hurt OP. Really hope they find and jail the driver!

    Bloody hell 😯

    That’s proper shit that.

I’m glad to hear you are ok though, jeeeeze… I expect they’ll be caught soon enough, not like there aren’t enough CCTV around there so at least that’ll be sorted.

Whilst recovering I’d start planning what bike to get next… Another Propel ?? Canyon Aeroroad ? ?

    TiRed

Propel Advanced SL next. Was going to be my second cat bonus but that looks like it won’t be happening this season!

Glad it wasn’t the Defy because that bike now can’t be replaced. I do like the Canyon, but the club are sponsored by Giant so I should get a good deal.

Still incredulous that the driver sped off! Last thing I remember was “Mercedes ML – my mum’s old car! Going to hurt!”

Not that common these days, so I hope they find the <expletive deleted>.

Feeling a bit better this morning after a much better night. Thanks for all your kind words.

PS I may not be riding for a while, but I can still coach!

I believe the usual form is for the owner of the car to report it stolen but only reliasing it was missing many hours after the accident. 👿

Imo the paper/police are being a bit lame just saying you are ‘expected to make a full recovery’. Whilst i am sure that is true and am glad to hear it, I would be reporting the impact on you of several nights in hospital, many fractures and the amount if time off work this cretin has cost your employer (and you if you are self employed or are on any form of bonus or regular overtime. As well as the cost to the taxpayer of the subsequent police investigation.

OP, healing vibes. I too hope they catch the culprit, disgraceful.

What utter shits. Hope they catch them.

TiRed, hope you are doing ok considering and that recovery is speedy. Crap time of year for it to happen too, not that there’s ever a good time for that sort of thing 🙁

Get well soon chap. I know the roundabout well, I used to live about 100 yards away. The roundabout is notorious for accidents, in the time we lived there there were too many to recall.

Might be worth speaking to the petrol station up the road, I know they have pretty good CCTV due to a number of incidents that took place there.

Very nasty. I hope you get better soon and they catch the driver. Just an aside. How come they took you to St George’s not St Peters since you were in Chertsey

    theotherjonv

St George’s is a specialist trauma / head injuries unit. Report said air ambulance attended, whether TiRed got a ride in it and if so if he remembers it, is not covered.

I was unconscious for quite a while and the air ambulance doctor decided I might need the specialist trauma unit. As it turned out, I didn’t. Think the nationals are six weeks away? Can you race in a cast?

    What would G do?

    😀

And no ride in the air ambulance. Didn’t even hear it arrive, or the first response, ambulance, police or fire engine!

Police said the victim, a man from the Slough area

Sorry to hear about the terrible circumstances, hope you haven’t suffered too much.
Sorry to hear about the accident too. 😉

healing vibes. You can race in a cast if your doctor says it’s ok, or if you ignore your doctors advice (and the race official lets you), I recall someone having a cast shaped to fit their bars at one race? Have they put a cast on your sternum, didn;t imagine they do that?!

    turboferret

I raced a duathlon a couple of years ago with a broken arm in a cast 😀 I did fall off over some speed bumps though as it wasn’t very easy to hold on….

    Hope you heal up well.

    Cheers, Rich

Get well soon. We are about the same age and I missed the masters nationals in 2012 when I broke my arm a week before the race.

I work in Chertsey and I have never liked those mini roundabouts. Well I have never liked ANY mini roundabouts!

I hope you mend quickly and they catch the ‘beep’ who put you in this state.

Reading through the article, it just gives a quick summary. As mentioned above, people need to know the full consequences of their actions.

It’s good that you are staying positive and looking towards the future.

Yes me too. I know that roundabout as I have a friend who lives in Addelstone, the whole town center is a bit of a rat run.
