In the picture – the middle hole has a dropped in “anchor” which takes a ~8mm hex bolt. On either side are location holes for dowels.

I tried finding the fixing on screwfix but you know what it’s like trying to find something on there when you don’t even know the name of it.

Anyone know what it is called or indeed if I can remove it from the existing hole so that I can raise the shelf a couple of inches.

The actual piece looks like this:

At the moment, the middle shelf is too low and our computer won’t fit in there. I’d rather use invisible fixings and plug the pre-drilled holes.

That is possibly one of the ugliest pieces of furniture I’ve ever seen!

Wouldn’t it be cool to have a search function on Google where you enter a picture rather than a word to find things?

Think what you want is an insert nut. not sure you’ll get the existing one out without a fight though!
