I’m need to replace my Deore LX cranks – they are the ones where the right hand crank has the spindle attached, and the left hand one bolts straight on to that – i.e. bottom bracket does not have a spindle at all.

I can’t work out if this one is the same thing – pictures and descriptions are not clear.

Anyone know if it’s the same thing?

Link didnt work for me? EDIT, no its not the same thats the old type.

Why you changing if you dont mind me asking?

Its pretty simple to change the bearings in the BB costs about £5-6.

If all the rings are worn out too, its sometimes nice to just get a nice new set, but usually 1 ring wears out before the others so is cheaper to just replace as needed.

You mean a Hollow Tech 2 crank. The one you linked is octalink so not suitable. LX has been discountiuned as a MTB groupset. Getting either get a Deore (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=40496) or SLX (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=28020) is your best bet. As a bonus both will come with a new BB as well.

edited to get the link working.
changing it because the rings are worn – sometimes cheaper to buy the whole crankset rather than rings.
So what’s my old style one called – and can you get them anymore?

Your current crank is HolloTech2 (HT2) and is still current tech. Any shimano MTB HT2 crank will be compatible with your current setup.
If you’ve looking to replace rings, you probably need to consider replacing your chain and sprockets also.
When you say your rings are worng, whats actually wrong with them? I dont consider my rings worn until the chain slips on them when you apply the power.

Old one is LX Hollowtech 2. If you look ont he bake of the arms there will be a model number e.g. m560, put this in google and see if anything comes up.

BTW, If you want the cheapest I’ve some XT HT2 rings that came off a crank I’m using for SS that I’d sell for £15. These would work fine on your current crank. My email is in profile if your interested.

Or if you buy a new crank I might be interested in you old ones minus the worn rings.
