    Bosch!

Can’t have an art thread without mention of old Heironymous.

Can you imagine his teachers talking about him when he was at school?

‘That young Heironymous is not a very well little boy, is he?’

Torm; that’s in a little gallery in my home village, that painting. 😀

How about a portrait of a child murderer, but made with the handprints of children? 😯

As is The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, another one that stopped me in my tracks. Love the Bosch btw.

elf- that’s such an attention seeking post, nothing to do with the op, not helpful at all, just attracting attention to yourself! Thought you were a hater of Sensation, young british artists, etc! This is about nice background interior decoration prints 😉

Saw this in Australia, found it very beautiful. Khue Nguyen is the artist.

How about a bit of Bridget Riley. Quite hypnotic when you have a large print on the wall

or some classic 1930’s French graphic Design. AM Cassandre for example. Utterly beautiful and very very stylish

Emsz – I’ve got a lot of original artwork up in the house rather than prints. It doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive.

Find out the nearest University that runs decent courses in Fine Art, Photography and Illustration then go to their end of year shows. You’ll get an amazing variety of styles on display. Some preposterous and silly, some absolutely wonderful. If you see something you like then make them an offer. I’ve picked up a few things like this.

You could try your local Barnardos or Help The Aged, etc. My dad’s house is decorated almost exclusively in artwork and prints from Barnardos house clearances, and there are some real gems. I particularly like his lithograph of The Golden Fleece. He’s got original silhouettes of unnamed 19th century dignitaries, huge Matisse prints, an amazing native American painted scarf thing, very detailed portrait studies in pencil, and a VERY detailed homage to The Arnolfini Marriage. I think the most expensive was the scarf thing, at about £15.

I see what what you mean about being photographic! I thought it was at first. Like Suerat?

Suerat didn’t paint photo-realistically – he was an impressionist.

I have always liked (amongst lots of the already posted)

Although I am sure you really would need to have an original to truly appreciate it.

I was in Amsterdam Art Gallery (or was it the Louvre, I forget now) and really liked some of the miniatures – but that was more for the technical execution than artistic merit.

Binners -I like your style 🙂
