See in my mind, Nirvana and Pearl Jam are a bit like subterranean factions, waring on the same side, yet with very different front facing personas….

First two albums still stand up there. Truly timeless brilliance. The rest Dont like so much.. Kind of gave up on them a whle back. The most recent album is suppost to be brilliant though..
Temple of the dog as a side project were pretty good. Stone temple pilots had some genius moments.. Interstate love song being a stand out.
Alice in chains were another with a couple of great singles.

Might have to raid the cd collection later…

What is it you love about grunge, the angst, the seminal lyrics, the punk attitude with heavy feedback…

Love Ten. None of the other albums matched that for me, although they did do some later singles like Yellow Ledbetter.

Love AIC too. Dirt was such a great album.

Was never too fussed by Nirvana, I thought the other were better.

Alice in Chains: By far the most consistent and individual of the “grunge” movement (well, the popular ones, anyway).

Like Eddie V – fantastic voice and always comes across really down to earth and genuine. The band were bobbins, though, in fairness – bunch of classic rock opportunists. Pretty accomplished, mind, and I guess they took their chance when it presented itself.

Alice in Chains are probably my fave band…so dark, I love it. Staley was one the best rock vocalists around.

Although part of the grunge movement…not sure Id class them as grunge, a bit heavier than that.

Green River, MLB, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney for me. Ten was a bloody good album though.

Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden.

Ten is a classic album. The high point of their career.

AlC, Nirvana, they were the best imho, but only coz they burned brightly for a short while?
Pearl Jam, consistently put good stuff out, some of their later stuff is still great but…
Soundgarden very good, Audioslave was a great side project (well 1st album)
I know it ain’t grunge but I dunno where else to lump it but Faith No More have done things, wonderful things love their latest stuff, I think Mike Pattinson genius has been his side projects, keeping it fresh Peeping Tom being the best example.

Which brings us back to Maynard….. Tool was kinda grunge, goth metal prog grunge, Perfect Circle upped the goth, Puscifer goth country hip hop.
The next Tool album can only be immense, after 10 years it better be

See, I really like Ten. But I would never say it’s timeless. It sounds like an early 90’s album to me – with hints of the 80’s thrown in. And some of their lyrics are, well, a bit cringeworthy.

Over hyped no doubt, pish – nah. Cobain was a staggeringly good front man. And Grohl hammered out some mean rhythm. Heart Shaped Box IMO is genius.

Faith No More aren’t grunge in the slightest, but they are an incredibly influential and wonderful act. Regarding Patton side projects, Tomahawk kick ass.

Fugazi were (hopefully are) not grunge. Ian Mackaye would not be a happy chappy with this.

Sonic Youth should definitely be mentioned.

Send no Flowers did a decent job repping the UK grunge thing. Kerbdog for the Irish angle. Soundgarden need to be mentioned.
