I’m applying for an event, for which there is a small number of bursaries. The from requires me to fill in my bank account number (actually an IBAN number) and sort code then, details about the name and address on the account holder. Though i think these are not essentail
This is so if you are successful they can reimburse costs.

seems strange that all applicant submit these details rather than just the successful ones.

Can I be robbed with just my name and account number?

If you send me you debit card number, expiry date, and those three silly digits on the back, I’ll run a quick check for you and find out how secure your account is.

If you write a cheque and pay some with it they have your name, acc no and sort code.

These on their own cannot be used to rob you.

I run a club and we’ve had a spate of dodgy direct debits being set up, presumably by someone grabbing account details off a membership form on the web. The bank alerts me to every one and they all get stopped but I guess they must get some success to keep doing it.
