Why does everyone assume that more people going to university is the way forward?
Students don't count on the unemployment figures. Get lots of people at uni and BAM! Instant drop in unemployment.
I hate to say it but Farage hit the nail on the head: improve education at the school level.
Painfully, Nick clegg seems quite good, however how he can ever say that cutting money on education is wrong is bloody unbelievable!
Did I just hear Nick Clegg correctly there about tuition fees? He smoking crack?
wanmankylung - MemberDid I just hear Nick Clegg correctly there about tuition fees? He smoking crack?
😆 He is sky high chasing the dragon ... me think he is confused.
Going to university is important as it gives you the skills to get a higher value job. The problem we have is that we aren't creating higher value jobs. Uk Productivity, a measure of higher value jobs, has been stagnant since 2007. It's worse than many eu countries.
Can we have an SNP, Plaid Cymru, Green coalition please
when that Welsh bird speaks all I can hear is that she wants more funding for pot noodle mines!
And I get why clegg gets stick for tuition fees, its not like his was prime minister or his party had much say!
Why did Farage make that entirely discredited crack about England baling out Scotland in tax? That was put to bed in the IndyRef.
Nigel Farage; tough on Scots, tough on the causes of Scottishness.
nickc - MemberCan we have an SNP, Plaid Cymru, Green coalition please
How do you call them then? Scottish Plaid Green?

Nigel Farage; tough on Scots, tough on the causes of Scottishness.
They are all tough on Scotland because Scotland is a colony they are not willing to give up. 🙄
A degree only helps getting a job if it is a useful subject, not the case for 80% of degrees
That lady audience clam down dear you are on telly. 😀
As an aside - the females are wiping the floor with the males in this debate.
I think Farage has this wrapped up.
Milliband is as unconvincing as Clegg.
Cameron struggling.
And Sturgeon "none of us can afford more austerity"!! Oh dear!!
Only just got in so starting on recording. Nats was awful and Farrage straight into uncontrolled immigration and then a wet Cleggy start. Can I stay up to 23:45 to watch this???
Oh god sturgeon has the DOs mannerisms and LTEP in Dave's first sentance.
Clegg lost all credibility when he demonstrated he didn't understand the source of the global financial crisis.

You coudn't be more wrong.
As an aside - the females are wiping the floor with the males in this debate.
Yes they are doing a lot better.
I wouldn't bother. Cleggs wants rid of the National debt 🙄
Impressed with Wood - sounds much more natural, no histrionics. Cameron, Miliband, Clegg just sound like pointless nerds 🙁
mikertroid - MemberI think Farage has this wrapped up.
Milliband is as unconvincing as Clegg.Cameron struggling.
Cameron makes sense and Farage direct to the point.
The rest are in fairytale land ...
The Greens think that the pandas and rhinos will pay our student loans?
If there's any justice, that aussie woman would not get any votes at all. Boring, single policy claptrap.
wooobob - MemberThe Greens think that the pandas and rhinos will pay our student loans?
Crikey they are going to abuse the pandas and rhinos then 😀
wrecker - MemberIf there's any justice, that aussie woman would not get any votes at all. Boring, single policy claptrap.
I think she is Kiwi? Yes? Because that's how my mate sounds ...
Bllx, drinks all round in the opening statements, I will be oissed in less than an hour.
Whole family wetting themselves with Ed trying to look natural.
It's simple. The recession was caused by too much personal debt. Whereas this recovery is far more sustainable and has been driven by... Oh, hang on. Personal debt.
The women wiped floor with the men.
Farage committed political suicide.
Cameron did his best to hide.
Miliband spent too much looking into the camera.
Very interesting.
SNP, Greens and Plaid are irrelevant. Farage is a smug, bigoted prick who thinks everything can be blamed on immigrants. Miliband lacks sincerity, especially with his damn hand waving antics. Clegg looks at ease but doesn't have a clue. Cameron is struggling and looks scared (but to be fair, he realised that this would be a farce at the start and never wanted to be there) but he's the only one can actually support his proposals with facts based on performance over the last 5 years.
No one comes out of this looking good but Cameron looks less bad than the rest.
If there's any justice, that aussie woman would not get any votes at all. Boring, single policy claptrap.
Unfortunate then that she represents the only real alternative to the neoliberal master plan.
SNP, Greens and Plaid are irrelevant
They had a lot less to lose.
Nicola Sturgeon won that then.
The Oscar goes to ... (drum roll)
In order of winners.
1. Cameron - for being calmed and composed.
2. Farage - for being direct to the point.
3. Sturgeon - for being able to put others in their position.
4. Wood - for speaking nicely and clearly.
5. Milliband - for being ambitious.
6. Clegg - for his supporting role.
7. Bennet - for being there.
Cameron is struggling and looks scared (but to be fair, he realised that this would be a farce at the start and never wanted to be there) but he's the only one can actually support his proposals with facts based on performance over the last 5 years.
Hang on. Cameron made this a 'farce' if you think that's what it is by insisting on the world and his wife being there
Wanmankylung.....apart from her glaring lack of knowledge of the economy....
No one comes out of this looking good but Cameron looks less bad than the rest.
that's hardly a resounding vote for the tories...
So in summary everyone thinks the person they already liked has won?
.....apart from her glaring lack of knowledge of the economy....
Hmm - were you watching the same debate that I was? The economy wasnt dealt with in great depth by anyone.
So in summary everyone thinks the person they already liked has won?
Nail/head.
eddie11 - MemberSo in summary everyone thinks the person they already liked has won?
No. Not me.
Cameron is good there as he is more polished. Good PR team I guess ... wonder how much the PR team get paid ... hhmmm ...
I'm guessing that the meeja will call it for Farage
Managed to stay awake ... only just.
It would have been better if Natts still had a cold.
So in summary everyone thinks the person they already liked has won?

And they still hate the ones they hated before hand
TBH i found them all equally annoying as you could say their answers for them to any question
Johnny, Johnny......who the @@@@ is little Johnny
MRS THM, I can see why Cameron didn't want to do this.
Niggle really is on a mission to niggle nicola
Impressed with Nicola, Natalie's accent grated on me and unsure about Leanne's policies.
The men were just a pita.
that's hardly a resounding vote for the tories...
Very true. Best of a bad bunch I'm afraid.
The biggest worry is that some of the intellectual giants that have posted their wan insights on this thread might actually be eligible to vote..
If the STW microcosm is reflective of society as a whole then we're all going to hell in a bucket
And they still hate the ones they hated before hand
Absolutely, Junky, absolutely.

That's fair because everyone is in hell. 😆
The women came across a lot more sincerely than themen
But its degrees of ****erishness for the lot of em
[s]Best[/s] just another one of a bad bunch I'm afraid.
Haven't been elected by majority since 1992, the deadest of ducks.
The biggest worry is that some of the intellectual giants that have posted their wan insights on this thread might actually be eligible to vote..
Do you mean, "Some people might vote in a way that I don't agree with"? Or, do you mean that "Anyone who votes in a way I don't agree with shouldn't be allowed to vote"?
Hang on. Cameron made this a 'farce' if you think that's what it is by insisting on the world and his wife being there
He enhanced the farce but it was always going to be a farce. TV debates are only good for sound bite politics.
no CFH.. I mean exactly what I typed
yunki - Memberno CFH.. I mean exactly what I typed
You mean we are all going to hell?
If yes, then what's the problem with all of us in hell? 😈
Dear old Nicola and her AUSTERITY mission. Why doesn't she repeat here Indy nonsense that they are the only party that can solve the deficit by cutting taxes and increasing spending. Has she changed her mind or just grown up?
Farage talking about education "only working for the rich elite as they get richer, pulling up the ladder on the rest of us"
Big words for an Eton educated City trader
Sturgeon nicked Merkel's stylist .
YouGov result: Sturgeon wins the debate
Its a bad day in the THM household
YouGov result:
Sturgeon 28%
Farage 20%
Cameron 18%
Miliband 15%
Clegg 10%
Bennett 5%
Wood 4%

Absolutely, Junky, absolutely.
Lets buck the trend eh
I thought Dave was impressive and I am seriously considering voting Tory...your turn 😛
Its quite depressing. We are going to be governed by a minority government in a coallition with a party that didnt want to be part of the UK.
Sadly voting for none of them wont count.
Democracy my arse.
Big words for an Eton educated City trader
Eton might be a big school but did they acquire Dulwich too? They will be saying that GO was there too!!!
Junkyard - lazarusYouGov result: Sturgeon wins the debate

It looks like (as YouGov result) the next coalition govt might come from Tory and UKIP because SNP will wipe the floor with Labour while the rest will have difficulty to master enough seats.
Imagine Tory and Labour form a govt ... 😯 😆
Democracy my arse.
I think you meant fairness. Democracy in action I'm afraid.
Trimix, the irony and hypocrisy is breathtaking isn't it.
Is Natts wearing a Druid medallion?
The only thing I learnt was how pleasant and easy to listen the Welsh accent is.
And I was reminded of how depressing the state of British politics is .... seven party leaders, not one genuine left-winger.
ernie_lynch - MemberThe only thing I learnt was how pleasant and easy to listen the Welsh accent is.
Does that mean you don't like the Kiwi accent? Ya? 😆
It was the women wot won it
Every Labour Government have left office with unemployment higher than when they came to office.
The only thing I learnt was how pleasant and easy to listen the Welsh accent is.
Really? When she got a bit whiny I couldn't help thinking of Fenella the witch!
Teamhurtmore - apologies, I listened to my wife shouting at the TV - she is always right in my household! Google does confirm that Farage went to Dulwich College! hardly a barrow boy though!

I'm not sure what that has to do with tonight's TV debate but if we are going to post random stuff here's my contribution :
See if you can figure out what years the Tories were in government.
Welsh (especially the way she says little) is defitnitely preferable to nasal angry DregHORN
At least Natts talks sense on immigration
Here's my contribution to random posts.Democracy??
Not even that popular with those of her own party, who could actually be bothered to vote, sort of says it all.
regardless of who you thought won(I don't particularly care, it's in the eye of the beholder). I was pleasantly surprised by the debate. It was better than my, very low, expectations.
Overall, I think they more or less all came out not bad.
Farage looked very squirmy at one point though. Although he probably appealed to his rabid core support.
I thought stugeon did well, and the fear the tories have been peddling about a lab minority governemnt with the SNP keeping them in check may well be lessoned a little.
I think that's the ultimate outcome. Overall, not a bad night for labour, despite Ed continuing along with his overly coached puppet routine.

My final observation is one that is especially relevant during a general election campaign - that, to quite a large extent, the political debate on the economy suffers from an illusion of control
I agree with that guy
I also agree with what Gary linekar said on twitter
Nice drawing ernie. And I never referred to the Conservative party.
At least my comment is true
