  • Garmin etrex legend problems – any solution?

Hi, bought an etrex legend off the classifieds a couple of weeks ago and now it transpires the base map is for the US and Canada, not Europe as I had assumed. The seller helpfully didn’t mention this at the time!

Is there any way to make this useable or is it a junker?

    Ta,

In what way is it not useable? Just ‘cos it’s got a US basemap doesn’t mean you can’t track/upload UK routes or upload more maps.

Of course, if you were expecting to be able to use it as an in-car sat nav unit as well, US maps ain’t gonna be much use to you.

Just install Garmin Mapsource on your PC, buy the UK mapping and transfer to the unit. Easy. 😆

yup you need the UK base maps via mapsource software 😉 if you want to use the basemap – sometimes usefull when lost 😉

TBH Joe – I’ve had Etrexs for years now & never even looked at the base map
As above – if it’s for plotting & downloading routes, it’s not an issue

Bad form on the part of the seller to omit that info but its quite possible they didn’t notice
