Well that new format will work a treat in Monaco won’t it….

Yep.

F1 have already said it won’t work in Monaco and they’ve got no plans to roll it out at every venue…

I suspect it’s all a bit premature, anyway. If the 2022 formula achieves the goal of close racing then sprint races start to look a lot more interesting.

Pretty much don’t feel I want to watch tomorrow as I’ve seen how it’ll go

Shame, I don't think you've seen much really as they couldn't change tyres, and despite Alonso's great overtaking on the first lap, he probably spoiled the opportunity of some close racing between Norris and Leclerc. But for sure, It's Verstappen's to loose.

Yeah, about that…….

Maybe keep sprints for 2022 at least

I thought the idea was to try the sprint format this year to see what everyone thinks, then possibly use it at half a dozen races per year in the future. It was never intended to be used at every race. Some circuits will suit it, others won't.

I reckon the sprint format would be the perfect situation for a reversed grid then there would be some overtaking.

The other smart thing about starting from the pit lane is that he won’t be starting in close proximity to Mazepin 😉

What are the stewards gonna give Hamilton for that - 5 sec time penalty? I reckon Lewis will take that all day long.

That was one massive shunt.

Hamilton was just about level at the turn-in, if he hadn't lifted they would have bumped wheels.

What? They did bump wheels, Lewis was in the wrong there.

Be interesting to see what happens as anyone else on the grid would certainly get pinged for that. My have damage anyway of course

Hamilton should be penalised for that IMO - his front wheel hit Maxs rear

I don't see why that was Lewis's fault. He was alongside so Max should have given him space (according to the penalties dished out at the last race)

Alternative view, Max turned in on Lewis and the back of his car clipped the front of the Merc.

I'd put that down to a racing incident.

Agreed about the crowd though, disgraceful to cheer a rival's misfortune.

As in front wheels against each other and rears too rather than Hamilton's front to Verstappen's rear. Verstappen would have gone for the overtake if the roles had been reversed.

two separate events. 🙄 do you try hard or does it come easy to you

so you think it was acceptable the crowd cheering when a driver is going sideways into a tyre barrier at 100 mph+

Plenty of space for both to corner on their lines. Impact disrupts set up so Hamilton is moved across. Commentators are hardly neutral. What’s Tom cruise say?

I thought that Max was defending aggressively for the whole lap, and Lewis kept backing off, the time he didn't back off Max loses out. Looking at the driving for the whole lap I would say that Lewis was driving safer than Max, Lewis couldn't make the apex because Max nearly forced him right over into the pit wall and compromised his entry.

Horner’s not very happy!

He’s a whining little shit as we know. They were always going to go hammer and tongs, and this was always going to happen at some point. Racing incident, and I’m pleased Max is OK.

Max gave him an entire car width - hamilton missed the apex and left half a car width on the inside, thus hit max. max was always ahead

I don't understand this "That's not a corner you overtake on" from Red Bull (including the fanboys in the C4 commentary team)....you can overtake wherever you like...if Max hadn't come across they'd have both been fine

50/50 they could have both avoided it.

But… Max is in the lead of the championship, with a better car. This is the sort of incident where you back off and fight back later in the race. Losing 25 points here could lose him the championship.

Karuns video intended to show max easing left shows him turning in twice. He tried to squeeze Lewis instead of going wide and lost.

Max gave him loads of room, Lewis fluffed getting the car turned in

Lewis was forced wide after impact from Max and lost downforce. Thought that was obvious from the steering by Lewis. Racing incident. Would have been the same if reversed.

max was always ahead

Lewis edged ahead on the straight, max was ahead mid corner because he had the wider line and was able to carry more speed, Lewis can't just give every corner to Max that wouldn't be a race, Lewis had the inside line and was at least level when they entered the corner, but his entry was compromised and couldn't hold a tight line, it is just racing.

He tried to squeeze Lewis instead of going wide and lost.

Hamilton had more than a car width when he failed to head towards the apex. Nothing like “squeezed”

I think it’s acceptable to people to cheer when their man gets ahead of a rival, then be pleased when everyone is ok.

Seems everyone not involved with red bull thinks it is a racing incident.

I think that shot of Hamilton showed a picture of a man that is feeling guilty. Maybe not deliberately, but still knows he pushed a bit too hard and misjudged it.

You are changing the narrative now.

the cheering was shameful, that could've resulted in serious injury or death. You seem comfortable with that and its says lots about you.

Ironically, during the build up they showed Prost showing a wheel to Senna through Copse in '93 - no contact, all fine.

But yeah, failed F3 driver can tell 14 F1 world championships that it can't be done.

Racing incident.

Or judged it to perfection - not the first time a tactical 'nerf' has been used in a F1 championship fight! 🙂

And I know I'm sounding like a Lewis apologist, but Max needs to learn how to win a championship and park his arrogance sometimes. It's his to lose this year.

If Red Bull produce a turkey of a car next year this could be his best chance for a long time.

I’m changing your narrative. Not everyone is baying for blood. As it unfolded, I shouted ‘Get in Lewis!’. I have no ill will towards Max.

For me Max has been aggressively pushing anyone around for ages, with the attitude if you don't back off we'll crash. The trouble with that strategy is when someone won't back down either.

I said after the last race that Hamilton needs to get his elbows out, Max now knows he can't rely on Hammo jumping out of the way like he has been this season.

Last time out C4 were whining about penalties being dished out for any passing attempt that went wrong (mostly involving Perez). This week, not so much. Wonder why...

Don’t think anyone disagrees. However, Lewis didn’t get the car turned in from his unusual line which then caused the crash. “Clumsy” is probably the best word that’s being used for it, and you deserve to get pinged

Kravitz reporting that Helmut Marko is calling for a race ban for Lewis. This is the type of continuous whinging that turns me off Red Bull.

Anyway - back to the race - Bottas needs to get past Norris pretty sharpish. Should be his chance to take the win today.

Isn't this Silverstone pit lane a rubbish design? Who signed-off on the plans so half the pit boxes aren't visible to spectators. Can't be great for the pit crews either just staring at a great big wall.
