    It’s been a while since A-level (or maybe it was GCSE) physics…

    Am I right in thinking that the ratio of the currents and the voltages on either ‘side’ of a transformer is the same?

    Say, for example, you have a 240V input transformer, with a 12V output into something that draws 4A. The ratio of the voltages is 20/1, so would the ratio of the currents be the same, so the draw on the input side would be 4/20 => 0.2A?

    Roughly speaking, yes. Power is your constant (VI), ignoring some of the complexities of inductive/reactive loads. Decreasing voltage requires a step up in current to maintain the same power throughput.
