If you are into repeatedly doing big drops, big stairs, and generally doing hard landings, what bike is better? A trials bike or a bmx?

a street bmx, I presume by trials bike you mean a silly bike with no saddle

All things being equal I’d imagine the BMX would be stronger. Landing on stairs on a bmx is hideous though. No idea why anyone would want to.

Either a BMX or a mod trials (20″) will last the longest, they’re both very similar in essence. A 26″ will be a bit less lengthy in life but its more down to materials and design than type. A steel bike will almost undoubtedly outlast an alu one because alu has no fatigue limit, whereas steel does and can be designed to stay below this essentially lasting indefinitely.

mmw – trials bikes dont have to have no saddle…

I went down the stairs on my bike and pulled up all the carpet, the wife went nuts.

I like Ryan Leech’s approach to trials – ie he tries to keep the bikes as close to an mtb as possible.
