OK, I’ve got an old Trailtech HID housing similar to this: http://trailtech.net/single_hid_scmr16.html

and I’ve got the original taskled bflex driver that’s currently running one of the original Lumi halogen can conversions (can’t remember what LEDs but from a few years ago) plus a rocker switch.

My plan is to hook it up to my old Lumi 13.2V NiMh battery and one of these: http://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Power-LEDs-Cree/CREE-Solutions/3-x-CREE-XM-L-T6-on-round-PCB-LT-1749_120_117.html

Obviously I’ll need to get a heatsink in there and I probably won’t be able to run the thing at full power without melting it but … will it work? And will that optic give me a usable beam?

I think it will work but you will only get 1 amp max thru the leds and they need 3 amps to drive flat out. so you will get around a thousand lumens and shouldn’t get too hot. Does that driver not have a thermal cut out anyway?

Cool. Yes, I think it does have a thermal cut-out. If I’m only going to get 1k lumens would I be better off using different LEDs?

or a differnt driver to drive it at 3 amps to get the full fat

However 1000 ish is loads of light. Probably a lot more than you have now However I am not certain at all about this

At 8.4v max though it may not work with your battery. Though the driver is more than the claimed 1000ma, I have seen it measured by many sources at 2.6 – 2.8 amp.

For my own interest and help for the OP, how much heat would a triple xml put out at 1A? I’m thinking of running 2x triples.
