  • Discs or suspension forks – if you had to choose between them…

Took the old bike out for a spin off road today – steel Rockhopper, v-brakes and Project 2’s, normally used as a tourer these days.

Coped fine without front suspension, but really, really missed my discs – arm pump, less power and modulation etc.

If you had to make the choice, which would you keep?

There’s always one that spoils it isn’t there?

No, but seeing as you asked nicely you can have yellow Maguras and a huuuuge Flexstem.

    On balance forks, I think.

I’d take tubeless over either of them tbh.

    opposite to TJ.
i rode a 1995 marin for years before i splashed out on a real bike with discs and suspension, at first i found suspension an aquired taste, but decent disc brakes wow, cant live without them now! not just amazing stopping power but very low maintenance too.

i still got one of my bikes setup with rigids, i like it

Forks and rim brakes please. And I’ll fit a set of magura rim brakes.

Forks first, suspension keeps your wheel in contact with the ground, brakes work much better that way. 🙄

disks by far. They pay for themselves in a few months when it’s wet and gritty.

Some BB7’s to keep it all simple and easy to service whilst out touring.

I think it would have to be forks, doing 50-60km on ridged forks would slaughter my arms.

    forks for me

I have v’s on my bike. I have ridden a few disc equipped bikes recently. They didn’t seem that different brakig wise

    Discs over suspension forks…………
Having my mate wet himself laughing as i couldn’t stop my 4″ full sus on Garburn, due to wet/muddy rim brakes (he had a very early set of Hopes and had no such problems!), and the same ‘mate’ as i couldn’t stop on a night ride over Blawith common, as water had frozen on my rims, again nearly died laughing, hence my choice. Suspension may be quicker, but its hard to use your speed if you can’t control it. (IMHO of course).

I choose both discs and a suspension fork.

Having just gone back to a rigid fork on my SS, but kept my Disc brakes, go for the disc brakes
