  • Coffee question – do you wash your Moka Pot?

Seem to recall reading/hearing somewhere that you shouldn’t wash it, so as to let the coffee oils etc build up a residue? Rinse it out of course, but not actually wash it, does that sound about right?

    cheers 🙂

Rinse with water, no chemicals – none needed. Like a tea pot, only different.

IIRC it says in the instructions that came with mine not to wash it, just rinse with water.

Rinse, any old coffee grounds I put on my fruit and vegeatble patch. I can’t remember (wasn’t listening) to the science behind it when someone told me, but my tomatos and peppers have been much tastier and grown faster this year.

Yep I just take it to bits and rinse it out in clean water.

Don’t pop it on the side whilst it’s still too hot to take apart & rinse, then forget about it, return to it a week later and find stuff growing in it!

Who makes the best ones – still Bialetti?

Coffee oils go rancid – so cleanliness is next to godliness with coffee kit.

That said, you don’t normally need detergent – a godd rinse suffices.

I’d always thought what JonEdwards says- coffee oils are bitter, and will taste rancid so the pot should be kept well clean. I’m prepared to think differently though- any links?

Frypans however, are a different story..

What’s so great about crema? Tastes nasty, try spooning some off and tasting it some time 😕
