As my previous thread I’ve now got the pistons to replace the duff ones on my guide RS brakes….
But I’ve not got any pliers to remove the Circlip. Just been into Machine Mart , my local tool store and my diy shop to no avail. Think I need internal needle nose pliers. Can someone point me in the right direction as I’ve already bought a set that won’t fit. Tia.

Just found an old thread and think I’m sorted now thanks.

I asked a local SRAM guy and apparently these fit well:

I swear we have around set sets of circlip pliers at work, and not fit…. Need to order the above at some point, as rebuilding Guide R without decent pliers is a pain in the butt.

Thanks people. I found an old thread which recommended the Park tools pliers so I’ve ordered a pair.  £19 but I’ve tried a few others that I’ve bought and borrowed with no joy so thought I would get a decent set that hopefully last a long while.

I hope you haven’t ordered these!

As ‘snap’ ring is kind of appropriate as the tips snap off with remarkable consistency.

The Park ones lasted exactly no goes. The tips snapped off first try. I hope you have better luck.

I think I eventually got a mixed set from Screwfix. Though at the time I might have resorted to a couple of thin and long and pointy things and ‘chopsticked’ the circlip out. PITA.

I replaced the 💩 sram plastic pistons with some Al ones off of eBay.

It was a single pair I ordered from eBay. In the comments someone recommended them for the above job. Anyway they are on their way now so it’s too late to cancel them. I shall have a look at the screwfix ones in case it goes belly up with these!
Turning out to be an expensive fix!

I used a small screwdriver with a thin ‘bit’ to pop the circlips out of the groove. Couldn’t get my circlip pliers into the hole – too big. When relpacing, push the piston in, then push the washer into the groove – this then gives you enough time to get the circlip and push that down into the groove without the lot pinging out with the spring.

Park as above are bloody useless.

I shall report back when I’ve knackered the park tools set then!

Just a quick update, thought I would try this morning with a tiny pick as I’m impatient and couldn’t wait for the pliers to arrive and hey presto popped it out in 30 seconds!

Shall give the pliers a go on the other brake when they arrive.

Finally had time to do the front brake where  I used the park tool pliers, really easy job with them and the ends didn’t snap off either! Bled both brakes and jobs a good un.

one strange thing was the fact the front brake piston didn’t have a small metal nipple on the end of the spring whereas the rear did. Looked at the sram manual and it appears that oem pistons have the nipple on the spring, anyway all sorted now.

I bought a cheap set from Screwfix to do mine. Had to file the ends down a tiny bit but worked fine.
