Whilst Chris Evans is a petrolhead, it needs some sort of balance, as he’s not a commentator as such.
Jason Plato might be a good choice as he’s from “within” the industry so to speak.
Im all for giving Chris Evans a chance, the world changes and we either move with it or get left behind.
I enjoyed top gear before and I may enjoy it again in the future. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve watched the first new series completely. That should give everyone (associated with the program) a chance to settle in and find their way a bit.
Don’t forget that Andy Wilman (the show’s producer) has also left, so it will almost be starting from scratch. Not sure how many of the original writers and production team have remained.

Depends if he can stop it becoming the Chris Evans Car Show.

I dunno, STW love a good “here’s a review of my new bike” thread, so they’d probably be right into car ones too 😉

And yes I know that being ginger isn’t a ‘protected’ minority, but it is a physical appearance dictated by genetic heritage.
Being ginger is a lifestyle choice.

So is being gay, or heterosexual for that matter,(one can always abstain or change you hair color) but being short isn’t and we’re not a protected minority. #smallmansyndrome

Entirely agree everyone hates short people, especially short politicians.

Bring back Stefan Buczacki, Bill Sowerbuts and Fred Loads, the original three.

I quite enjoy that Channel 4 programme with the Life on Mars dude, it’s a bit samey, buy barn find car, do it up, auction it, but given a script he could play the Clarksonesque oaf as well as Clarkson himself.

…..the most intolerable thing on the radio at work, makes the care home show with dull bruce seem interesting.

Ken Bruce, dull? Surely not? He’s the best DJ on the radio these days! 8)

Can someone sum up the past 4 pages…
although let me guess some people hate Chris Evans, some people love him. Some people hate top gear, some love it.
Some people just like to argue 😆

I know it goes against the general feeling but I think it’s a great choice. Very much in the same mould only more positive and without the hangups of old. Loved the TFi Friday and no reason this couldn’t be as good.

To some extent I feel it’s a shame they couldn’t just slot May and Hammond back in there but I think they want a whole new thing. and if you’ve seen it, I think that’s a hint as to who I’d like at least one of the presenters to be.

I do however know who I’d not like it to be.

    Quentin Wilson
    Suzie Perry
    That Glenister fella
    Jodie Kidd
    Vicki Bulter Wotsit

Time for some new blood in the other roles (at least to TV) and at least one of them has got to be a bit handy behind the wheel.

    Quite right.

Along with 55 million other UK residents, I don’t listen to Chris Evans on the radio.

Those who do listen to him, should realise they are in the minority.

Interesting to hear that Evans will both present and produce the show.
As for a female presenter I’d like to see Susie Wolfe give it a bash. She is always knowledgeable and enthusiastic during her stints on Sky F1 and unlike ‘the other’ Suzi she seems to have something more to offer than the occasional thigh flash…

Either way he’s the most successful radio presenter out there, no one else comes close.

Well Wogan had 8.1 million which would put him in second place.
We’ll see what the viewing figure for TG are mid series. Unless he improves previous figures and the BBC maintains sales of TG abroad, it’ll be considered a failure.

That’s where the money is, have your production company produce the series and sell it to the BBC for 10s of million, rather than agree a salary which the BBC gets beaten up over by the gutter press as being a waste of public money etc.

Has CE / BBC said what will happen to the Breakfast Show?

All this talk of Evans not going down as well as Clarkson overseas. Isn’t it just the format that is used overseas that makes the bbc loads of money, rather than broadcasting the same show. In the us, aus and France they definitely have their own version of the 3 idiots. It defiantly wasn’t jc dubbed into french that I saw whilst on holiday.

Doesn’t really matter that much, Top Gear is the brand and if he does a good job, it will still sell well overseas.

Good call, but expect the “other two” will be underlings with no personality, afterall you wouldn’t want to show Chris up would you.

So I’m going for the “other two” as:

    Pepe’ le Peau
    &
    Deputy Daug

Am I the only person who thinks that there is a lot of angry petrol-heads on this thread, which is quite ironic for a MTB forum?

It’s just semi-factual light entertainment, get a grip

Nope, I find it quite odd. A lot of people with issues letting it all boil over at Chris Evans…

Being a MTB doesn’t mean you can’t be a petrolhead.

    Exactly.

lots of cyclists are petrol heads

Sean Kelly, being interviewed after the ’84 Amstel Gold Race, spots his wife leaning against his Citroën AX. He interrupts the interview to tell her to get off the paintwork, to which she shrugs, “In your life the car comes first, then the bike, then me.” Instinctively, he snaps back, “You got the order wrong. The bike comes first.”
