Hopefully I’m moving to the area near Mold in January, and I’m really looking forward to being so close to Snowdonia, peaks etc ( I currently live near London). I have been trying to find out what the local Riding scene is like and I’ve not turned up alot.

I know there are places like Llandegla and revolution bike park nearby, but what about stuff on your doorstep, or a 15 minute drive out of town?

I know there must be stuff around, and strava shows some areas, but I’m keen to hear more. I enjoy both dh and xc and everything in between. I think there is a lot of xc in the clwyd mountains, what about local downhilly tracks? I’m going up this weekend and want to spend one day near to mold so any help would be appreciated!

Moel Famau is a good little hill to play on, they do the Marathon series round there, could quite easily make an epic route out of the other Moel’s adjoining it.

Llangollen has the DH place, plus you aren’t far from Antur Stiniog. http://www.ridenorthwales.co.uk is a great resource.

Go to Foel Gasnach in Clocaenaog Forest if you want some downhill.

You’ve got Ruthin town, or there is a car park at the bottom which is £2.

LOADS of XC riding around there. The Clwydian range runs right past Mold – continuously down to Llangollen and beyond, and there’s Halkyn “Mountain” just to the North.

Have a look at some of the routes involving Moel Famau, Cilcain, Moel Arthur, Nercwys, etc. here:

If you are going to be living near Mold then you won’t have to drive 15 mins for good riding or even drive at all. Lots of stuff rideable from Mold. Have a look here for a start.

The peak of Moel Famau isn’t legally rideable but there’s plenty on its slopes. Park at the bottom car park up the road from Loggerheads or go out the back of Cilcain and park at the viewpoint.
