    Morning all

Me and my son (14) were due to go away to France for the week camping next week however given the sky high ferry costs (£233 ffs) thats a non starter. We found a place on the Isle of Wight however the ferry for that appears to be just as eye watering at £172 😯

With this in mind we’re now on the hunt for a quiet camp site somewhere nice with EHU, nice showers and where we can have a fire should we feel so inclined and ideally not be more then say 5 hours drive

We like to go for walks along the beach and scrambling on rocks so thought the south west/south wales would be nice. We also like to just chill out back at base and do a bit of sight seeing.

    EDIT: based in Kent.

http://www.dinhamfarm.co.uk should tick those boxes, very relaxed about camp fires the owner comes round early evening to see if you want some free firewood.

I know a great little site, dead cheap at £10/night, but if you want fancy facilities, then you’re shit out of luck; you get a loo with a sink, and a standpipe for water.
But, it’s not far from the beach, it has a wonderful view of Start Bay, there’s a lovely pub in the village that does wonderful food, and it’s on the South-West Coast Path. I camped there for nine days last year, and loved it. If you need all mod cons, get a hotel or B&B, camping should be fun, not worrying about being able to use the PlayStation
The view I woke up to every day:

No playstation but being able to use the cool box, charge phones/sat nav and run our tent lights at night all helps and not really a lot to ask. If your happy slumming it for 9 days withou a shower thats great and fair play to you.
I guess your idea of a fun family camping experience may just be different to others.

Nothing wrong with liking decent showers and electric at all. Plenty of sites around.
Can’t help with sites unless you are going up to mid Wales however. 🙂

Can recommend Treloan Farm on the Roseland: http://www.coastalfarmholidays.co.uk

Photos on the website don’t do it justice – in a quiet and relatively undiscovered bit of South Cornwall, 3 decent and almost deserted beaches within a half hour walk. They allow fires as long as they are off the ground and offer fire baskets and logs.

Short walk to Porthscatho for the pub. Possible to get to St Mawes and even Falmouth by ferry without using the car.

Great sea views from the site – they even have a mobile wood-fired pizza van which comes to the site a couple of times a week.

Another Cornwall option is Henrys on the Lizard – very quirky in a great location and allows fires in braziers. Loads to do in the area too.

In Wales, this is one of our favourites, handy for sea and mountains, and really wild feeling location. May be outside your 5 hours though:

    Aberaeron?
It’s on your 5 hour limit but the site we’ve been to is just a 10 minute stroll into the nice harbour. Rocky beaches and a nice sandy one down at New Quay.
Loads of walking (some cliff top) and there’s the steam train from Aberystwyth up to Devils Bridge

I think the site is called Camping on the Farm. No fires though.
    Good luck.

I’ll second trevayne farm! Went there for the first time last year and i’ll going back again this year. Lovely spot on the coastal path above a great beach, walking distance along said path to either saundersfoot or tenby.
