I've always thought that cycling has so much more support then football. Would football fans trek 20km up a mountain and sit by the side of a road for several hours just to catch a two second long glimpse of a footballer run past?

a footballer running in isolation is not exactly that great a part of the game! massive distinction between cycling where you can catch them at any stage in a race and they are, basically, cycling. whereas in football the 90 minutes game consists of all sorts of different scenarios occurring.

on your point, though, thousands of people frequently turn up at airports and the like just to watch the players walk past etc. so to answer your question, yes probably.

Just for a bit of balance to the anti football crowd, Bert Trautmenn the Manchester City goalkeeper played the final 17 mins of an FA cup final with a broken neck, making a couple of crucial save in that time.

If Cadel Evans or Lance Armstrong etc thought they could gain an advantage or get another of the contenders barred from the race, by rolling around on the floor and crying like a baby, they would do it in a heartbeat.

Been a Cadel fan for a few years now; he's a grafter and I like the cut of his (grumpy) jib 😆 Respect him for grafting all season and at the Giro his battle with Vino on the 7th Stage was (for want of a better superlative) awesome. However he does look a bit like a toad hunched over the bike so we say Vive Le Cain Toad…

It's funny how you handle yourself in TV interviews now means everything, in so many walks of life. Look at Armstrong, people think he's a fantastic guy because he comes across as so nice in the interviews he does…

Evans is world champion, he nearly won the Vuelta last year, missing out by a botched wheel change. Had a great ride in this years Giro and was winner of a tough stage which will go down in history. Mountain bike champion numerous times. He's a true all round cyclist like in the days of old, rather than targeting just one event. I guess you need more knowledge of cycling rather than watching a biased highlights program of just one event, once a year.
