Are their any bikes built in the UK not bike companies that have frames made elsewhere then sold here but frames etc. welded here?.

Cotic and Stanton have UK built frames, made from Reynolds tubing.

Cotic do most of their FS frames in UK, and Starling too, think both use Taiwan made swingarms. Stanton do a mix of UK and Taiwan hardtails.

Atherton do ti/carbon full-sus and now alloy full-sus. The former are wholly UK made, the latter have an overseas rear triangle and links, otherwise all UK made.

Hope for full jingoism. Make sure every part that can be a horrible anodised colour is for the maximum effect.

Mason I think make their hardtail in Scotland.

I think Five Land might make them for Mason?

Tora make theres in a shed in Cornwall.
BTR make theres in a shed in Frome.
Curtis make theres in a shed in Somerset.

    Common theme here…

Cotic now have some Escapades made in a shed in Mansfield.

18Bikes make their own too, but I’m not entirely sure where their shed is.

I don’t think all of the Cotic full suss frames are built in the UK, if I understand correctly the steel parts are made in Scotland, the aluminium parts in Taiwan?

(still makes me laugh a bit that my bike was made in Balerno, I had no idea at the time, it’s about 5 minutes ride from my old house. It’s not really the sort of place you expect to make <anything>, except for large scale fraud and messy divorces.

It’s in Sheffield, I went there to collect mine, quite the little set-up.

    Here, there, everywhere.

    Here, they’re everywhere.

They’re just putting theirs over there.

British designed and built frames are readily available – at a price; as for the essential components to turn a frame’n’fork into a bike – hmmm.

Ted James Designs builds all kinds of bicycle frames and the frame build components in a small industrial unit on a farm in rural Gloucestershire next door to the unit where he builds surf boards.

My shand was built with local production in mind.

Shand themselves are twenty odd miles from where i live in Edinburgh.   Hope brakes front hub.  Rohloff rear.  Halo rims.  Ritchie stem bars and seatpost ( USA Iirc) middleburn cranks,  mudhuggers.

I wasn’t purist about it but its a decent stab at it

I dont know what the tubeset is mind you 🙄😜

Wait what? So much about Balerno I clearly didn’t know. What fraud? Which bike manufacturer?

I walked past the Deviate headquarters at the weekend in Kinbuck nr. Dunblane, presume they don’t manufacture here though…

Tried that around 2005.  Was on a rigid single speed (of course it was, it was 2005) which helped and pretty much did it other than rims and tyres.  Would no doubt be harder 20 years later and with a geared bike not possible.

Not all of them. From their FAQ…

    https://www.enigmabikes.com/pages/faqs

The ‘Signature’ range including Excel, Esker and Echelon titanium models plus all our steel frames are handmade here in Sussex, UK
The ‘Core’ range is a selection of our best selling titanium frames and bikes that are designed and finished in the UK but made with care in our factory overseas. Both ‘Signature’ and ‘Core’ ranges are crafted and finished to the highest standards.

    This is correct?

    This is incorrect?

I’m dyslexic and thought I’d got this

As homonyms, the words there, their, and they’re are all pronounced exactly the same but have different and distinct meanings. There means “at that place” and is used to talk about a specific location. Their indicates ownership and is the possessive form of they

    RC529 – Taiwan

    RC429 – “Europe” , which I believe means Czechia

I was liking the look of Temple Cycles, they keep coming up on FB ads, but looking further into it, no, gone off them now. Road/gravel/utility only, no MTB. From their ads, I presumed the frames were UK made, but no, Taiwan or Vietnam made, with some British tubes. Surely there are some quality welders/Brazers available to make frames to keep it far more local, but I suppose they have bought a ready made frame off the shelf, so no need to design or build a jig. They are ‘hand assembled in Bristol’. Christ, I can order a frame from Taiwan and hand build the bike in my shed, that isnt rocket science.

    I have a Swarf 155:
Front triangle made by Adrian in Scotland
Rear triangle made by Five Land Bikes in Scotland on behalf of Adrian
Hubs, headset, pedals and stem all from Hope
Cranks designed by me and 3D printed from Titanium in the UK

Sadly Adrian shut Swarf and my cranks aren’t for sale.

The biggest British maker of frames will surely be Brompton.

And at the other end of the scale I occasionally braze one badly in the shed….

Fivelands are in Balerno- could be wrong but I think it might be the same wee industrial estate where Mojo were?

Re fraud, Balerno is full of financial professionals.
