    my son (now 9) has ridden an 18″ We the people arcade for the last few years, top bike if a bit expensive nowadays. It still fits well and is a much better size than the full 20″. They are long and not really manoeuvrable for young kids.

    Unless of course you want a race bike, 20″ minis fit younger kids.

    A bmx race bike would be best as all the components are optimized for the age of the rider…crank length, bar width & rise, tyre width, saddle etc. etc. Check out the forum & classifieds on Bmxtalk.com

    Mine started on a 16″ wheel Mongoose Pit Crew at age 8 – then graduated to an 18″ wheel Hoffman as he grew.
