    Could anyone suggest the biggest saddle bag please?

    It will only be used for commutting on my HT MTB on a round trip of about 9 miles about twice a week.

    No fittings for panniers etc and I want to avoid a back pack.

    Yep – Carradice Camper Longflap.
    Use the SQR fitting for rapid fitting and removal.
