Went out on my newly singlespeeded Inbred for the first time last night. Awesome.

Just out of interest what ratios do other SSers run?

    Mine is 36:18

Had 32:18 on the TD-1 for HTN, which is about the same that you're running.

I have 32:17 on my Inbred, cos of the big hills up here 😉

34:16 normally but I'm dropping to a very ladylike 32:18 for the keilder 100.

Obviously I could handle the bigger gear but I'm worried about the bike.

    No willy waving yet? 😉

edit: oh sorry, missed terrahawk's post. Good lad!

    Right then:

44:16 on my fixed cross bike
    38:16 on my humuhumu
    50:16 on my track bike.

I'm a very high cadence rider so 32:16-32:18 on a 26er and 33:19 or 33:20 on my 29er with an rotor ring to get even more spin*

32:16 on my 2 (including the one I used at Kielder last year, Samuri…)
and somethingfookingridiculous:16 on the Tandem of Doom. I see the ratio as being the least of my problems.

I now go up hills literally twice as fast as I used to. Trouble is, I can only do one little climb and thats me goosed for the rest of the ride

Genuine question – how often do you ride geared bikes compared to ss?

I want to ride more ss, really do struggle and I'm using 32:18 in the South. 😳 Do I really need to stop riding with gears to improve a wee bit?

In the past I've found that if I didn't ride the ss for weeks on end, I went back to square one, ie really rubbish.

yea, it's a different technique, more out of the saddle than with an MTB off road, more akin to a road bike i always think

    MTB 38:20
    Fixed road 42:16
s/s road 44:16 (too high for me but I'd run of of 'magic gear' ring/cog options)

.I have been running 40:16 for blasts around flattish areas with a few sharp shortish hills, I was surprised how do-able it was.

Back to 32:16 now for SSUK.. slightly higher inches cos I'm on 650B wheels though.

I'm a skinny fecker though, so the hills aren't a major bother as long as momentum is maintained (alas not always possible in techy climbs)

Riding SS you really have to 'attack' hills (I know that aint a well loved phrase here but it's the best explanation…) If you don't hammer it right away from the bottom of the hill it's only gonna get harder! 😮

all iv ridden for the last 3 years is ss now the only bike i have with gears is my commuter dont really like the idea of it but its the best option for all out speed over time.
